Application of diazotrophs (N2-fixing microorganisms) can decrease the overuse of nitrogen (N) fertilizer. Until now, there are few studies on the effects of diazotroph application on microbial communities of major crops.

Deciphering Role of Endophytes in Plant Defences and Biotic Stress Resilience Across Families
ABSTRACT Plant families generate distinct repertoires of specialised metabolites that govern their biotic interactions. Endophytes strengthen host plant defence mechanisms and tolerance to biotic challenges by upregulating metabolite biosynthesis, modifying precursor compounds into more potent forms, or by directly synthesising analogous defence ...

Characterization of a novel, ubiquitous fungal endophyte from the rhizosphere and root endosphere of Populus trees [PDF]
Abstract We examined variation in growth rate, patterns of nitrogen utilization, and competitive interactions of Atractiella rhizophila isolates from the roots of Populus hosts. Atractiella grew significantly faster on media substituted with inorganic nitrogen sources and slower in the presence of another fungal genus.

Selenium hyperaccumulation has little impact on the overall microbiome diversity but rather affects interactions with key plant microbial mutualists, including rhizobia. Abstract Metal hyperaccumulation is prevalent throughout plant evolution, particularly in the legume family (Fabaceae), and acts as a presumed chemical defence against herbivory ...

Drought Influences Fungal Community Dynamics in the Grapevine Rhizosphere and Root Microbiome [PDF]
Plant roots support complex microbial communities that can influence nutrition, plant growth, and health. In grapevine, little is known about the impact of abiotic stresses on the belowground microbiome.

Benchmarking of Reference‐Based Tools for Strain‐Level Resolution of Plant Microbiome
ABSTRACT Strain‐level identification of each microbe is crucial for understanding its role in the host. Most of the existing tools have primarily been evaluated on human metagenomic datasets, whereas the plant microbiome exhibits greater diversity and complexity and thus poses a challenge in the strain‐level resolution of individual microbes.

Microbiome‐mediated plant‐soil feedbacks as a tool for resilient agriculture
Translating plant‐soil feedbacks (PSFs) into reliable agricultural management requires shifting from input‐dependent practices toward endogenous, process‐driven crop resilience. To bridge this gap, we propose a predictive framework centered on three strategic interventions: engineering the crop holobiont, diversifying the soil habitat, and deploying ...
