Determinate Root Growth and Meristem Maintenance in Angiosperms [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2007
The difference between indeterminate and determinate growth in plants consists of the presence or absence of an active meristem in the fully developed organ. Determinate root growth implies that the root apical meristem (RAM) becomes exhausted. As a consequence, all cells in the root tip differentiate.

Interaction Between Actin and Microtubules During Plant Development

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The dynamic interaction between actin filaments (AFs) and microtubules (MTs) plays a crucial role in regulating key developmental and physiological processes in plant cells, particularly in the formation of specialized cell types with distinct shapes and functions, such as pollen tubes, trichomes, and leaf epidermal cells.

A dynamic genetic-hormonal regulatory network model explains multiple cellular behaviors of the root apical meristem of Arabidopsis thaliana. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2017
The study of the concerted action of hormones and transcription factors is fundamental to understand cell differentiation and pattern formation during organ development.

PEK14: A Kinesin‐4 Necessary for Male‐Derived Fertility in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Of the 61 kinesins annotated in Arabidopsis thaliana, many are still without assigned function. Here, we have screened an insertional mutant library of Arabidopsis pollen‐expressed kinesins for fertility defects. Insertional mutants for three kinesins showed a significant reduction in seed set.

Developmental biology of wood formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The wood-forming vascular cambium is responsible for the production of a large part of the biomass on this planet. Yet, there is only limited knowledge on how cell proliferation and differentiation in the cambial meristem are regulated.

Calpain Proteases and the Evolving Signaling Network in Insect Embryonic Patterning

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
Insect embryonic Dorsal‐Ventral (DV) patterning relies on the BMP and Toll pathways to different extents. Calcium‐dependent cystein proteases of the Calpain family also exert an important function to pattern the DV axis. In Drosophila, Calpain A cleaves the Cactus/IkappaB inhibitor and modifies Toll signals in ventral regions of the embryo. In Rhodnius

MsEnod12A Expression Is Linked to Meristematic Activity During Development of Indeterminate and Determinate Nodules and Roots

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 1997
During development of nodules and roots, the alfalfa early nodulin gene MsEnod12A is expressed adjacent to the meristem. Using transgenic alfalfa carrying a MsEnod12A promoter-gusA fusion, we investigated the regulation of MsEnod12A expression in mature ...

Brassinosteroid signaling directs formative cell divisions and protophloem differentiation in Arabidopsis root meristems. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Brassinosteroids (BRs) trigger an intracellular signaling cascade through its receptors BR INSENSITIVE 1 (BRI1), BRI1-LIKE 1 (BRL1) and BRL3. Recent studies suggest that BR-independent inputs related to vascular differentiation, for instance root ...

MpANT regulates meristem development in Marchantia polymorpha

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Meristems are crucial for organ formation, but our knowledge of their molecular evolution is limited. Here, we show that AINTEGUMENTA (MpANT) in the euANT branch of the APETALA2-like transcription factor family is essential for meristem ...

Arabidopsis ROOT UVB SENSITIVE2/WEAK AUXIN RESPONSE1 is required for polar auxin transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Auxin is an essential phytohormone that regulates many aspects of plant development. To identify new genes that function in auxin signaling, we performed a genetic screen for Arabidopsis thaliana mutants with an alteration in the expression of the auxin ...
