Projection of root systems

open access: yes, 2019
Let $a$ be a real euclidean vector space of finite dimension and $\Sigma$ a root system in $a$ with a basis $\Delta$. Let $\Theta \subset \Delta$ and $M = M_{\Theta}$ be a standard Levi of a reductive group $G$ such that $a_\Theta = a_M / a_G$.

Fine gradings of complex simple Lie algebras and Finite Root Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A $G$-grading on a complex semisimple Lie algebra $L$, where $G$ is a finite abelian group, is called quasi-good if each homogeneous component is 1-dimensional and 0 is not in the support of the grading. Analogous to classical root systems, we define a

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Physiological and Molecular Mechanisms of Ethylene in Sculpting Rice Root System Architecture

open access: yesAgronomy
The root system of rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a central determinant of stress resilience and yield, functioning in resource acquisition, anchorage, and environmental sensing. This review synthesizes recent advances in understanding how the gaseous hormone

Generalized reflection root systems

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2017
We study a combinatorial object, which we call a GRRS (generalized reflection root system); the classical root systems and GRSs introduced by V. Serganova are examples of finite GRRSs. A GRRS is finite if it contains a finite number of vectors and is called affine if it is infinite and has a finite minimal quotient.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Systems approaches to study root architecture dynamics

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
The plant root system is essential for providing anchorage to the soil, supplying minerals and water, and synthesizing metabolites. It is a dynamic organ modulated by external cues such as environmental signals, water and nutrients availability, salinity

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
