School Vision Screening Data Informing a County-Based Community Health Needs Assessment

open access: yesOnline Journal of Rural Nursing and Health Care, 2022
Purpose: The objective of this study was to (I) analyze Arkansas school nurse vision screening data, (II) provide a county-based pediatric vision care need assessment, and (III) evaluate eye care provider workforce in both rural and urban settings to ...

POISED TO ADVOCATE: THE PEDAGOGY OF THE LIGHTNING TALK IN CHILD AND YOUTH CARE EDUCATION

open access: yesInternational Journal of Child, Youth & Family Studies, 2020
Advocacy is an integral part of child and youth care workers’ roles and a significant component of child and youth care politicized praxis and radical youth work. Drawing from the qualitative data of a mixed-methods study conducted in 2019 at a Canadian

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Univariate real root isolation in an extension field

open access: yes, 2011
We present algorithmic, complexity and implementation results for the problem of isolating the real roots of a univariate polynomial in $B_{\alpha} \in L[y]$, where $L=\QQ(\alpha)$ is a simple algebraic extension of the rational numbers.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

The Co-ordination of Swimmeret Movements in the Crayfish, Procambarus Clarkii (Girard) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
1. Electrical activity recorded in the first roots of the abdominal nerve cord show bursts of activity which accompany rhythmic movements of the swimmerets. These bursts persist when a root is cut distal to the electrodes. 2.

Log-majorization of the moduli of the eigenvalues of a matrix polynomial by tropical roots

open access: yes, 2016
We show that the sequence of moduli of the eigenvalues of a matrix polynomial is log-majorized, up to universal constants, by a sequence of "tropical roots" depending only on the norms of the matrix coefficients.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...
