The ALS‐associated E425K mutation uncouples DNAJC7 from the Hsp70 chaperone cycle

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 12, Page 3485-3501, June 2026.
DNAJC7 is a J‐domain protein that plays a key role in protein quality control by regulating Hsp70 activity and preventing protein aggregation. We find that the ALS‐associated E425K mutation in DNAJC7 disrupts productive interaction and activation of Hsp70, thereby blocking the transfer and refolding of client proteins such as TDP‐43.

Deciphering the properties and reaction mechanism of anhydromevalonate phosphate decarboxylase, a prenylated flavin mononucleotide‐dependent enzyme in the archaeal mevalonate pathway

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 11, Page 3303-3319, June 2026.
Characterization of anhydromevalonate phosphate decarboxylase, the UbiD‐family decarboxylase involved in the archaeal mevalonate pathway, was conducted. The enzyme is responsible for the biosynthesis of isoprenoids, such as archaeal membrane lipids, respiratory quinones, and dolichols.

Selective targeting of cortactin tandem repeat acetylation by human lysine deacetylases

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 12, Page 3528-3544, June 2026.
Cortactin function is regulated by acetylation at several lysine residues within its tandem repeat region. Using genetic code expansion to generate cortactin variants containing precisely defined acetylation marks, we show that HDAC6 is the primary enzyme removing these modifications, with SIRT1 and SIRT2 also acting at selected sites but with lower ...

Typhoid Toxin of Salmonella enterica Induces ISG15 Responses Mediating Host Cell Survival and Counteracting Intracellular Infection

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 125, Issue 6, Page 475-492, June 2026.
Toxigenic Salmonella enterica exocytose the typhoid toxin during infection causing host cell DNA damage, which activates a Type‐1 Interferon‐like response characterised by interferon‐stimulated gene 15 (ISG15) expression. ISG15 was required for host cell survival during Interferon responses and suppressed intracellular growth of Salmonella. Thus, ISG15

Enhancing CRISPR/Cas‐Mediated Gene Knockout With Short Non‐Homologous Oligonucleotides

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, Page 3742-3753, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a model green microalga that has great industrial potential as a sustainable bio‐factory for recombinant protein and high‐value chemical production. Efficient genome editing tools are required to redesign this organism for synthetic biology applications. CRISPR‐Cas editing technologies have already been adapted for
