Real-Time Detection of Faults in Rotating Blades Using Frequency Response Function Analysis

open access: yesApplied Mechanics, 2023
Turbo machines develop faults in the rotating blades during operation in undesirable conditions. Such faults in the rotating blades are fatigue cracks, mechanical looseness, imbalance, misalignment, etc.

Design and Experimental Validation of a Ducted Counter-rotating Axial-flow Fans System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An experimental study on the design of counter-rotating axial-flow fans was carried out. The fans were designed using an inverse method. In particular, the system is designed to have a pure axial discharge flow.

A numerical investigation of the effects of blade’s geometric parameters on the power consumption of the twin-blade planetary mixer

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2016
Blades act as key components for twin-blade planetary mixer; their geometric parameters (blade–blade clearance and helical angle) and two different rotating modes (counter-rotating mode and co-rotating mode) were investigated numerically via commercial ...

Behavior of the Blade Tip Vortices of a Wind Turbine Equipped with a Brimmed-Diffuser Shroud

open access: yesEnergies, 2012
To clarify the behavior of the blade tip vortices of a wind turbine equipped with a brimmed-diffuser shroud, called a “Wind-Lens turbine”, we conducted a three-dimensional numerical simulation using a large eddy simulation (LES ...

Unsteady Study on the Influence of the Angle of Attack of the Blade on the Stall of the Impeller of the Double-Suction Centrifugal Pump

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
In order to clearly show the influence on the rotating stall of the impeller of a double-suction centrifugal pump, this paper, using the numerical simulation method of Shear Stress Transform (SST), analyzes the effects of different inlet angles of the ...

An Improved Circumferential Fourier Fit (CFF) Method for Blade Tip Timing Measurements

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Rotating blade vibration measurements are very important for any turbomachinery research and development program. The blade tip timing (BTT) technique uses the time of arrival (ToA) of the blade tip passing the casing mounted probes to give the blade ...

Influence of Blade Leading-Edge Shape on Rotating-Stalled Flow Characteristics in a Centrifugal Pump Impeller

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Rotating stall, which is a common phenomenon in turbomachinery, strongly relates to the flow rate condition. In centrifugal impellers, rotating stall was induced by the incidence angle on blade leading-edge at partial-load.

Comparison of Various Turbulence Models in Rotating Machinery Blade‐to‐Blade Passages [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 1999
Numerical calculations on four blade passages are done using Q3D Navier‐Stokes solver with a simple mixing length turbulence model and two more advanced transport‐equation approaches. Mixing length is simple and cheap but crude, while more sophisticated transport approaches are more physical but more expensive.
