Investigation on the propagation process of rotating detonation wave

Acta Astronautica, 2017
Abstract Effects of mass flow rate and equivalence ratio on the wave speed performance and instantaneous pressure characteristics of rotating detonation wave are investigated using hydrogen and air mixtures. The interaction between air and fuel manifolds and combustion chamber is also identified.

Multiplicity for idealized rotational detonation waves

Physics of Fluids, 2021
Simulations of three-dimensional rotational detonation waves are conducted to understand the mechanisms of wave bifurcation. A compressible reacting Euler solver is developed within the framework of OpenFOAM, and a fixed mass flux boundary condition is developed to avoid complex injector dynamics. Influences of inflow mass flow rates and initiations of

Investigation of Rotating Detonation Waves in an Annular Gap

Proceedings of the Steklov Institute of Mathematics, 2020
The authors numerically solve a problem of formation of rotating 3D detonation waves in an annular gap between parallel plates. They consider the case of a propane-air mixture, assuming that the reaction occurs under stoichiometry. They write the system of nonsteady Euler equations for an ideal multicomponent reaction mixture, in a conservative form ...

Secondary waves dynamics and their impact on detonation structure in rotating detonation combustors

Shock Waves, 2021
In this work, we experimentally investigate secondary waves in rotating detonation combustor (RDC) operation. Secondary waves are finite-strength periodic perturbations of the field, which manifest as reacting fronts and/or pressure rise rotating around the annulus superimposed to one or more detonation waves.

Rotating Detonation Wave in an Annular Gap

Proceedings of the Steklov Institute of Mathematics, 2018
The authors consider the three-dimensional Euler equations of an ideal multicomponent reacting mixture that describe combustion of an air-fuel mixture in an annular gap. The system is studied numerically, using high-performance computers. Air is considered as an oxygen-nitrogen mixture, the fuel is gaseous.
