Detonation Wave Propagation in Rotational Gas Flows
Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2004This paper studies the propagation of detonation and shock waves in vortex gas flows, in which the initial pressure, density, and velocity are functions of the distance from the symmetry axis. Rotational axisymmetric flows having a transverse velocity component in addition to nonuniform longitudinal velocity are considered.

We perform a three-dimensional numerical simulation based on a one-step chemical reaction model to investigate changes in the mode of H2-Air detonation wave propagation from rotating detonation wave (RDW) mode to standing detonation wave mode. The physical characteristics of an RDW with injection velocity of 500m/s are analyzed to investigate the ...

Multiple ignitions and the stability of rotating detonation waves
Applied Thermal Engineering, 2016Abstract We perform a numerical study on rotating detonation engines (RDE). The simulations demonstrate the feasibility of creating multiple detonation waves and examine their stabilization process. The computations are based on the three-dimensional Euler equations with reactive sources.

Visualization of processes in an engine with a rotating detonation wave
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020The present paper discusses the use of the HDVIS (High Definition VISualization) program to consider features in modelling of a detonation engine. In the visual processing of the fields of gas-dynamic reacting flows, almost the entire set of graphical description of the flows is used: from constructing a three-dimensional volumetric image or ...

On the response of annular injectors to rotating detonation waves
Shock Waves, 2019A series of three-dimensional, unsteady simulations have been conducted to illuminate the behavior of annular gaseous injectors that are frequently used in rotating detonation engine combustors. The strength (detonation overpressure history) and number of detonation waves in the combustor are investigated as operational parameters along with the ...

Secondary shock wave in rotating detonation combustor
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2019Abstract The secondary shock wave in rotating detonation combustor is studied by the combination of numerical simulation and experiments. Based on the pseudo-nozzle flow in the post-detonation zone, the influencing factors which cause the existence of secondary shock wave are clarified and then verified by experiments.

Transverse wave generation mechanism in rotating detonation
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2013Abstract Detonation engines are expected to be included in a number of aerospace thrusters in the future. Several types of detonation engines are currently under examination, including the rotating detonation engine (RDE). Although the RDE has been explored experimentally, its rotating detonation propagation mechanism is not well understood.

Diagnostics of the Profile and Rotational Symmetry of a Detonation Wave
Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 1997AbstractIt is possible to record a detonation wave profile and to conduct a detailed analysis on its various symmetrical levels and on the rotational symmetry of a detonation wave in only “one” test by using a specific streak mask and applying multi streak or flash gap technique.

Abstract We describe the critical condition necessary for the inner cylinder radius of a rotating detonation engine (RDE) used for in-space rocket propulsion to sustain adequate thruster performance. Using gaseous C2H4 and O2 as the propellant, we measured thrust and impulse of the RDE experimentally, varying in the inner cylinder radius ri from 31 ...
