Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

How Good are Orthopaedic Surgeons at Interpreting ECGs?

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2010
This study is to find out how good orthopaedic surgeons are at interpreting electrocardiograms and to compare the results between surgical specialties with physicians. It showed that surgeons were considerably weaker than physicians in this aspect.

Diode Laser versus Conventional Surgical Circumferential Supracrestal Fiberotomy in Preventing Relapse of Orthodontically Derotated Teeth: A Randomised Control Trial

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Orthodontics, 2023
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a diode laser (810 nm) for circumferential supracrestal fiberotomy compared with conventional surgical circumferential supracrestal fiberotomy in preventing rotational relapse in orthodontically treated cases ...

Beam-Truss Models to Simulate the Axial-Flexural-Torsional Performance of RC U-Shaped Wall Buildings

open access: yesCivilEng, 2023
Reinforced concrete (RC) core walls are commonly used to provide buildings with lateral and torsional resistance against the actions of wind and earthquakes. In low-to-moderate seismic regions, it is not unusual to find a single peripheral core wall that

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

New Technique: A Novel Femoral Derotation Osteotomy for Malrotation following Intramedullary Nailing

open access: yesCase Reports in Orthopedics, 2012
A 19-year-old female patient sustained a closed spiral midshaft femoral fracture and subsequently underwent femoral intramedullary nail insertion. At followup she complained of difficulty in walking and was found to have a unilateral in-toeing gait.
