Conformational dynamics of 1-phenyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanol by rotational spectroscopy and ab initio calculations

Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, 2018
The rotational spectrum of 1-phenyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanol, a chiral organic alcohol, was investigated using two chirped pulse Fourier transform microwave spectrometers.

Rotational spectroscopy

1998
This chapter cites a gas phase sample that demonstrates molecules in continual motion, appropriate to its thermal energy. It describes the continual motion of the molecules as rotational energy, which is the kinetic energy associated with the tumbling motion of the molecules relative to an observer in the laboratory.

Vibration-Rotation Spectroscopy

Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, 1955
Since the general background of vibration-rotation spectroscopy has quite recently been brought up to date in reviews of this series it seems possible to dispense with any general introduction to this subject. In this review it is proposed to indicate some present trends and to give a reasonably complete though not exhaustive account of recent ...

Rotational coherence spectroscopy: picosecond techniques applied to high-resolution rotational spectroscopy

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
This paper pertains to rotational coherence spectroscopy, a time-domain method of high resolution rotational spectroscopy based on the quantum beat phenomenon. We present a brief discussion of the theoretical basis of the method and a consideration of its advantages over spectral domain methods. We also present experimental results on two species - 1,2-

Collisions and rotational spectroscopy

Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, 1992
Abstract Motivated by Oka's early work on molecular collisions and especially collision-induced rotational transitions, this paper addresses progress in these areas. Particular attention is paid to recent extensions to lower energy collisions of astrophysical significance and to questions about the relation between experimental observables and the ...

Photoacoustic rotational Raman spectroscopy

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1981
A method and apparatus for spectroscopic material analysis are provided. Two coherent beams of monochromatic radiation are directed through a sample of material. A tuning mechanism adjusts the frequency difference between the radiation beams to equal substantially the rotational frequency of a preselected constituent of the material.

Rotational Spectroscopy

Abstract This chapter starts with a discussion of classical rotation of rigid bodies and moments of inertia. Asymmetric, symmetric, and spherical tops are defined. Rotational energy levels of diatomic and linear molecules are derived, along with selection rules and spectra. Rotational energy levels of symmetric tops are derived including

Rotational and vibrational spectroscopy

2015
This chapter presents a brief introduction to rotational and vibrational spectroscopy. It explains how pure rotational spectroscopy can be used in the precise determination of molecular geometry in small molecules and provide a direct means to deduce the shape of larger molecules.

Rotational spectroscopy and astrochemistry

Journal of Molecular Structure, 1995
Abstract During the last 25 years, the close collaboration between laboratory spectrocopists and astrophysicists allowed the detection of about one hundred different molecular species in the interstellar medium, largely via their rotational emission spectra.

Molecular Rotational Resonance Spectroscopy

Applied Spectroscopy, 1969
A number of recent review articles have summarized the application of Molecular Rotational Resonance (MRR) spectroscopy to the area of molecular structure determinations and described how these applications have applied to chemistry. This article will briefly review this established area of MRR spectroscopy and describe two developments that offer the
