ROUNDABOUT Receptors

2013
Roundabout receptors (Robo) and their Slit ligands were discovered in the 1990s and found to be key players in axon guidance. Slit was initially described s an extracellular matrix protein that was expressed by midline glia in Drosophila. A few years later, it was shown that, in vertebrates and invertebrates, Slits acted as chemorepellents for axons ...

Modern suburban roundabouts in Croatia - flower and turbo roundabouts

Scientific Journal of Civil Engineering, 2020
Turboroundabouts are specially designed multilane roundabouts with spiral circulatory roadway and physically separated traffic lanes. This roundabout layout was developed in the late nineties of the last century with the aim of increasing the traffic safety and capacity at classic multi-lane roundabouts.

Roundabouts

2018
Abstract Purpose – Measures aimed at reducing intersection crashes have high potential to be cost effective since intersections constitute only a small part of the overall highway system but intersection-related crashes constitute more than 50% of all crashes in urban areas and over 30% in rural areas.

Cyclists’ perception of risk in roundabouts

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2008
Converting an intersection into a roundabout improves motor vehicle safety, but a similar safety effect is not found for car-bicycle collisions. Very little is known about the reasons behind these collisions. In this study a first step towards an understanding of the reasons behind these collisions is taken.

Safe roundabouts for cyclists

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2017
May roundabouts be safer for cyclists than intersections? How are safe roundabouts designed? This paper tries to answer these questions on the basis of a before-after safety study of conversions of intersections to 255 single-lane roundabouts in Denmark. The before-after study accounts for long-term accident and injury trends and regression-to-the-mean

History at the Roundabout

History of the Present, 2022
Abstract The Gilets jaunes brought attention to the existence and demands of the popular classes as other than the deplorables of the far right. This essay examines the ideas of an innovative group of historians who interpret the Gilets jaunes as evoking and enacting the unresolved issues of the revolutions of 1789, 1848, and 1871 on the

Modeling gridlock at roundabout

Computer Physics Communications, 2015
We propose a cellular automaton model to study the traffic patterns at a roundabout. We obtain the complete phase diagram which consists of four distinct phases: free flow, congestion, bottleneck, and gridlock. For the six possible transitions among these four phases, we observe only five transitions.

Sharing the Roundabout

Science Signaling, 2001
The midline of the fruit fly and the zebrafish share more than just topology. Fricke et al. show that zebrafish use a receptor encoded by the gene astray for guiding axons from the developing eyes to the brain, crossing the midline on their way to form the optic chiasma.
