Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Influence of process variables on the properties of simvastatin self-emulsifying granules obtained through high shear wet granulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Improvements of the oral bioavailability of lipophilic drugs can be obtained using lipidic formulations such as the self-emulsifying drug delivery systems.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Shapes and Shears, Stars and Smears: Optimal Measurements for Weak Lensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present the theoretical and analytical bases of optimal techniques to measure weak gravitational shear from images of galaxies. We first characterize the geometric space of shears and ellipticity, then use this geometric interpretation to analyse ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Modeling of the race roundness and roughness for ball bearing based on Fourier series and fractal theory

open access: yesResults in Engineering
In the modeling and simulation of bearing dynamics, the roundness profile and surface roughness of the raceway is critical for ensuring the precision of the simulation results.

Evaluation of Wear between Pin and Bush in Roller Chain

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2009
A roller chain is a typical machine element used in bicycles, motorcycles and many other devices for power transmission. The life of a roller chain is determined by elongation.

Ancient Aeolian Reservoirs of the East Siberia Craton

open access: yesGeosciences, 2023
Fine-grained strata deposited on the Eastern Siberian craton are predominantly considered to mainly consist of Neoproterozoic sandstones. Clastic rocks near the unconformity border of the Ediacaran and the Riphean are represented by sandstone and ...

Cyber equipping 4.0 – fe-simulation-based setting instructions for a rotary draw-bending machine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The tool setting process for rotary draw-bending is very complex. Only experienced machine operators know which settings lead to a good result in relation to the bending task.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
