Roy Bhaskar started to his academic life at Oxford by studying economics. During his studies in economics he finds the fact that the philosophy of social science is dominated by a dispute between positivism and hermeneutics, and they all seemed to be dominated by an empiricist philosophy of science. After this discovery he moved to a realist direction.
