Leveraging large language models for heuristic usability assessment of medical software: Insights with the Radiation Planning Assistant

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 27, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract Background Usability engineering is essential for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medical software, as design‐related issues are a leading cause of use errors in clinical settings. Heuristic evaluation provides a practical approach to identifying usability problems, but its outcomes depend heavily on expert interpretation.

Comparison of drone and ground surveys for the detection of a rare plant in a fragile ecosystem

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 1, January–March 2026.
We compared the accuracy, time, and financial costs of drone and ground surveys for the detection of wood lilies (Lilium philadelphicum) in an endangered alvar ecosystem. We found that the drone surveys detected 73%–78% of the plants found in the ground surveys, but that this type of survey was more expensive and time consuming than the ground survey ...

Universal Regulation of DNA Polymerase via Photocaged Primer Enables Light‐Start Isothermal Amplification on Demand

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 3, 14 January 2026.
A simple and general photoactivatable approach is developed to regulate DNA polymerase activity, enabling light‐start isothermal amplification on demand. The molecular dynamics simulations reveals that the photocaged primer blocks DNA polymerase activity by inhibiting the conformational change of the polymerase.
