A Conservatıve Treatment Approach In A Sceletal Class III Case. A Case Report

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Orthodontics, 1995
Rapid maxillary expansion (R.M.E.) has a special place in orthodontic treatments. It is based on the principle of opening of the sutura palatina media. Among indications of the R.M.E. were collaps due to maxillary deficency, nasal insufficiency and cleft

SIRT1 Prevents Ferroptosis in Corneal Epithelial Cells by Enhancing HIF1α Protein Stability in Dry Eye Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress drives ferroptosis in corneal epithelium via SIRT1 downregulation. This work demonstrates that SIRT1 activation stabilizes HIF1α, which transcriptionally upregulates GPX4 to inhibit lipid peroxidation and cell death. The identified SIRT1/HIF1α/GPX4 axis reveals a novel defense mechanism and potential therapy for dry eye disease ...

Sense and Serendipity Aid RPE Generation [PDF]

open access: yesCell Stem Cell, 2009
Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a valuable cell type for a number of blinding disorders. In this issue of Cell Stem Cell, Idelson et al. (2009) use Nicotinamide and Activin A to markedly improve RPE yield from human embryonic stem cells.

Smart Nanotechnologies for Multimodal Neuromodulation and Brain Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Recent advances in smart nanotechnologies are expanding the toolbox for brain interfacing, from wireless neuromodulation and high‐resolution sensing to targeted delivery within the central nervous system. By combining responsive nanomaterials with bioinspired design, these platforms enable multimodal interactions with neurons and glia, while also ...

Retinal pigment epithelium degeneration caused by aggregation of PRPF31 and the role of HSP70 family of proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background Mutations in pre-mRNA splicing factor PRPF31 can lead to retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Although the exact disease mechanism remains unknown, it has been hypothesized that haploinsufficiency might be involved in the ...

Cells Dynamically Adapt Their Nuclear Volumes and Proliferation Rates During Single to Multicellular Transitions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
It is currently not well understood how cells regulate basic properties, e.g., volume and mechanics within dense multicellular environments like tumors. Here, we show that different cell types of cancer and also normal cells largely decrease their nuclear and cellular volumes in emerging cell clusters and that this is partly driven by cell cycle shifts.

Cell Cycle‐Specific Regulation of Centrosome Clustering Dynamics in Cancer Cells by the Multifunctional Kinesin HSET

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CDK5RAP2 associates with the kinesin HSET and forms co‐condensates. HSET motors drive the directional transport of CDK5RAP2 condensates toward microtubule minus ends. During mitosis, HSET self‐assembly further stabilizes clustered centrosomes, thereby enabling pseudo‐bipolar spindle formation in cancer cells with supernumerary centrosomes. Upon mitotic
