Design Issues in RSOA-based WDM PON
2008 IEEE PhotonicsGlobal@Singapore, 2008We review some issues critical for the design of the wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) implemented by using reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs), including the uncooled operation of RSOAs, the remodulation noise, the reflectionn of SOAs,and the limited modulation bandwidth of RSOAs.

All-optical wavelength conversion in GC-RSOA
ICTC 2011, 2011We propose a new all-optical wavelength conversion technique based on cross gain modulation (XGM) in gain clamped reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (GC-RSOA). The proposed technique uses the seed light reflected from the FBG as probe signal, thereby avoiding the need of an external seed source for wavelength conversion.

Performance of Self-Seeded RSOAs in WDM-PONs
CLEO: 2013, 2013We present a detailed performance investigation of self-seeded RSOAs in WDM-PONs. The influences of several system parameters on the transmission performance are examined, including signal extinction ratio, stable seeding power, and features of the wavelength multiplexer.

Rayleigh noise suppression with cascaded RSOAs in WDM-PON system
2013 22nd Wireless and Optical Communication Conference, 2013In single fiber bidirectional central light seeding wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (CLS WDM-PON), Rayleigh backscattering (RB) noise is the main factor limiting system performance. We propose and demonstrate a cascaded reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) structure to suppress signal RB noise in WDM-PON ...

Build-up analysis of an RSOA-based self-seeded transmitter
2014 The European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2014A different approach, focusing both on the power build-up and the optical spectrum build-up of the RSOA-based self-seeded transmitter, uncovers that steady-state is reached later than expected. Initial roundtrips are analysed to enlighten the mechanism of radiation formation from ASE.

Demonstration of WDM-PON using spectrum-sliced RSOA
SPIE Proceedings, 2006We present a low-cost WDM-PON employing colorless uncooled RSOA-based spectrum sliced sources. Colorless operations over 32 WDM channels are demonstrated from 0 to 60 o C in 155-Mb/s transmissions over 25 km.

A Review of Self-Seeded RSOA Based on WDM PON
Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2019The colorless technology has been offered as a solution to decrease the cost in wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON). The self-seeded reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (SS-RSOA) based on WDM PON has been proved to be a promising solution among colorless operations.
