Analysis of optical re-modulation by multistage modeling of RSOA
Optik, 2014Abstract The time-resolved multistage reservoir model well-known for semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is extended to analyze the behavior of a bulk homogeneous InP-InGaAsP buried heterostructure reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). Parameters for simulation have been extracted from the experimental RSOA characteristics.

Analysis of reflection noise in RSOA based WDM PON
2009 2nd IEEE International Conference on Broadband Network & Multimedia Technology, 2009In reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) based wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) system, reflection noise is a major factor impact on system performance. In this paper, a model experimental system is set up, in order to analyze various types of reflection noise in WDM-PON system, especially focus on the ...

2011 International Topical Meeting on Microwave Photonics jointly held with the 2011 Asia-Pacific Microwave Photonics Conference, 2011
Reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) have recently received a lot of attention as cost-effective upstream optical transmitters for wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical networks. However, the modulation bandwidth of this semiconductor device is limited to ∼1.5 GHz and the device is largely used to accommodate <2.5-Gbps ...

10-Gb/s Operation of RSOA for WDM PON
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2008We report on the 1O-Gb/s operation of the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) for the next-generation wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON). The bandwidth of the RSOA used in this experiment is merely 2.2 GHz. Nevertheless, a clear eye opening is obtained at 10 Gb/s by using the electronic equalizer processed ...

Enhancement of RSOA direct modulation bandwidth with optimized optical filter
2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015In-line and reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers can be effectively utilized as external modulators because they can perform simultaneously amplification and modulation. The reflective device (RSOA- Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier) is more practical in optical distribution network.

Bidirectional CATV/FTTH Transport Systems Based on a RSOA
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010A bidirectional down-link CATV/fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and up-link FTTH transport system is proposed. By employing −1 side-mode injection-locked and optoelectronic feedback techniques in our system, brilliant performances are experimentally observed in both downstream and upstream transmissions.

Wavelength-dependent characteristics of RSOA for color-free operations
Digest of the 9th International Conference on Optical Internet (COIN 2010), 2010We investigated the wavelength-dependent operating characteristics of RSOA with external injection for color-free operation over entire wavelength range of C-band or L-band, which can be widely applicable for RSOA-based WDM-PONs.

RSOA-based optical network units for WDM-PON
2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006Designs of low cost ONU for WDM-PON are presented and evaluated. Reflective-SOAs are proposed to be used as core of the ONU in a bidirectional single-fiber single-wavelength topology. FEC is employed to mitigate crosstalk effects.

RSOA-based self-seeded transmitters: The ERMES project results and offsprings
2017 19th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2017The EU FP7 ERMES project focused on the development of a wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM PON) colourless self-tuning transmitter based on reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) self-seeding. These transmitters represent low cost solutions to achieve self-organized wavelength access networks.

Pulse Width Modulation for Fronthaul in a Broadband-Seeded RSOA WDM PON
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2016Pulse width modulation (PWM) can support centralized radio access networks in analog optical fronthaul, avoiding the bandwidth expansion of the digital fronthaul. The PWM encodes the analog samples at the transmitter onto the duration of the on-off-keyed optical signal, splitting the sampling and quantization of the radio signal between remote radio ...
