Highly-nonlinear RSOA RIN compression

2014 19th European Conference on Networks and Optical Communications - (NOC), 2014
It has been recently experimentally and theoretically demonstrated that three nonlinear operation regimes can be observed in reflective semiconductor amplifiers in relation to gain saturation and, consequently, in relation to the bleaching of the modulation portion of the injected signal while the injected power increases.

Mitigation of Scintillation in FSOC Using RSOA-Based Spectrum-Sliced Incoherent Light

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2021
We propose and experimentally demonstrate the mitigation of adverse effects of scintillation using a spectrum-sliced incoherent light source based on gain-saturated reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs).

Comparison of LED and RSOA performance in WDM-PONs

2014 21st International Conference on Telecommunications (ICT), 2014
Currently there is an significant effort by system operators to deploy cost effective Passive Optical Networks (PON). In this way, next generation PON is the subject of studies by researchers and system designers. Among them, Wavelength Division Multiplexing in Passive Optical Networks (WDM-PON) are of particular interest once they can provide larger ...

1.55-μm Si-Photonics-Based Heterogeneous Tunable Laser Integrated with Highly Stacked QD-RSOA

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2021
We demonstrated a Si-photonics-based heterogeneous tunable laser in the 1.55-μm-band with quantum dot reflective semiconductor optical amplifier. Relatively low threshold current could be achieved owing to high gain characteristic.

Reflection tolerance of RSOA-based WDM PON

OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008
We investigate the effects of back-reflection in RSOA-based WDM PON utilizing the remodulation technique. The downstream signal is likely to have severe reflection tolerance (-42 ~ -35 dB), which highly depends on the RSOA gain.

S-band RSOAs for WDM PONs

Optical Fiber Communication Conference and National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2009
We report on a polarisation independent S-band RSOA for WDM-PON applications for the first time. Operation at 1.25Gbit/s over the entire S-band is demonstrated in TO-packaged devices with a path loss capability of ≫25dB.

Enhancement of power budget in RSOA based loop-back type WDM-PON by using the cascaded RSOAs

2010 12th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2010
In the RSOA based remodulation WDM-PON link, the quality of the upstream performance largely depends on the downstream, such as downstream ER and the received optical power, which directly connected to the link power budget. By cascading RSOAs in the ONU, aforementioned link design constraints were alleviated; the link power budget can be increased by ...

Research on characterization of frequency chirp in RSOA

Chinese Optics Letters, 2013
Light chirp is a major issue in optical fiber links. This letter deals with precise characterizations of the frequency chirp parameters of reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs). The RSOA chirp properties are represented by transient and adiabatic chirps, whose parameters are characterized utilizing a ratio between the phase and the ...
