Comparative Plastome Analysis Between Endangered Mangrove Species Acanthus ebracteatus and Acanthus Relatives Provides Insights into Its Origin and Adaptive Evolution. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
ABSTRACT Acanthus ebracteatus is a typical true mangrove species with great ecological and medicinal values. However, it has become endangered in China. Moreover, because of the similar morphology and distribution, it is commonly confused with the congeneric mangrove species, A. ilicifolius, which poses challenges to the protection and proper medicinal

Stratified activity: Vertical partitioning of the diel cycle by rainforest mammals in Borneo

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 55, Issue 5, Page 991-1005, September 2023., 2023
Knowledge of animal activity is fundamental to our understanding of species ecology and community dynamics, but this information is lacking for most tropical arboreal mammals. We paired ground‐ and canopy‐level camera traps in unlogged and recovering‐logged forest in Borneo to investigate how mammals partition activity across three‐dimensional habitat ...

Conserving urban tropical biodiversity by connecting networks of green patches 连通绿地斑块, 保护热带城市生物多样性 Memulihara biodiversiti tropika bandar dengan menghubungkan rangkaian tompok kawasan hijau

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 2, Issue 2, Page 80-94, June 2023., 2023
The objective of this study is to characterise ecological connectivity for mammals and identify important patches and linkages for connecting urban green spaces for Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our results demonstrate the potential for Southeast Asian megacities to support biodiversity in the urban context, and the potential for a different kind of ...

Bornean orangutan Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus population estimate within and around Danau Sentarum National Park, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 5, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Of the three sub‐species of Critically Endangered Bornean orangutans, Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus has the smallest population size. Our study found considerable decline of the populations, from 807 individuals in 1996 to 202 in 2010–2014 within the boundaries of Danau Sentarum National Park; and from 1578 to 71 in the outer boundaries of the Park.

Investigating Rice Blast Resistance Gene Distribution among Landrace Rice Varieties in Lower Northern Thailand for Improving Rice Cultivars

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Rice blast disease caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae is considered as one of the severe diseases, leading to reduce tremendous rice productivity in its cultivated areas of Thailand. Due to the rapid evolution and high genetic diversity of the pathogen, the innate rice resistance (R) genes associated with defense mechanisms are significantly ...

Bacterial supergroup‐specific “cost” of Wolbachia infections in Nasonia vitripennis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 9, September 2022., 2022
Wolbachia infected males show a reduction in the number of copulation and quicker sperm depletion. Abstract The maternally inherited endosymbiont, Wolbachia, is known to alter the reproductive biology of its arthropod hosts for its own benefit and can induce both positive and negative fitness effects in many hosts.

Chromosome‐level genome assembly of Indian mangrove (Ceriops tagal) revealed a genome‐wide duplication event predating the divergence of Rhizophoraceae mangrove species

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 15, Issue 3, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Mangrove ecosystems are unique, highly diverse, provide benefits to humans, and aid in coastal protection. The Indian mangrove, or spurred mangrove, [Ceriops tagal (Perr.) C. B. Rob.] is a member of the Rhizophoraceae family and is commonly found along the intertidal zones in tropical regions in Southeast Asia, southern Asia, and Africa. Here,
