From rumen to industry [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2012
The rumen is one of the most complicated and most fascinating microbial ecosystems in nature. A wide variety of microbial species, including bacteria, fungi and protozoa act together to bioconvert (ligno)cellulosic plant material into compounds, which can be taken up and metabolized by the ruminant.

Effects of Lycium barbarum Residue Substituting Dietary Maize on Fecal Microbiota and Growth Performance of Crossbred Simmental Cattle

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The bioactive substances we extracted from Lycium barbarum residue (LBR) have a typical polysaccharide structure. When 1.80% LBR was used to replace maize in the diet, the average daily gain of rossbred Simmental was significantly increased, and anti‐inflammatory ability was improved. In addition, LBR improved the fecal microbial composition, increased

Violin Plots as Visual Tools in the Meta-Analysis of Single-Case Experimental Designs

open access: yesMethodology, 2022
Despite the existence of sophisticated statistical methods, systematic reviews regularly indicate that single-case experimental designs (SCEDs) are predominantly analyzed through visual tools.

Dietary Glutamine Supplementation Alleviated Rumen Epithelium Oxidative Damage and Apoptosis Induced by Feed Restriction via Maintaining Mitochondrial Homeostasis in Female Yaks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary glutamine (Gln) supplementation increased the ATP levels and promoted cell proliferation in the rumen epithelium of feed‐restricted yaks. Besides, Gln inhibited ROS accumulation and reduced oxidative damage and apoptosis in the rumen epithelium of feed‐restricted yaks.

NITROGEN DYNAMICS IN THE RUMEN AND ABOMASUM OF SHEEP DETERMINED WITH 15 N-LABELLED AMMONIA OR 15 N-LABELLED DUCKWEED [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An experiment was carried out to investigate the dynamics of nitrogen (N) in the rumen and abomasum of rumen and abomasum-cannulated sheep using 15 N dilution techniques.

Analyzing the Stability of Relative Performance Differences Between Cloud and Embedded Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
There has been a shift towards the software-defined vehicle in the automotive industry in recent years. In order to enable the correct behaviour of critical as well as non-critical software functions, like those found in Autonomous Driving/Driver ...

Effects of Cellulase and Lactobacillus plantarum Supplementation on Fermentation Characteristics, In Situ Degradability, and Microbial Community Dynamics of Apple Pomace Silage

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of cellulase and Lactobacillus plantarum on the silage quality, in situ digestibility, and microbial communities of apple pomace silage. The combined supplementation of cellulase and Lactobacillus plantarum in apple pomace silage improved fermentation quality and enhanced rumen utilization efficiency.

Modelling Animal Systems Paper: Update of the Dutch protein evaluation system for ruminants: the DVE/OEB2010 system

open access: yes, 2011
In the current Dutch protein evaluation system (the DVE/OEB1991 system), two characteristics are calculated for each feed: true protein digested in the intestine (DVE) and the rumen degradable protein balance (OEB).

Survival of a Recombinant Rumen Bacterium in the Rumen of Sheep

open access: yesNihon Chikusan Gakkaiho, 2001
Survival of the recombinant rumen bacterium Butyrivibrio fibrisolvens NO4, expressing an exogenous xylanase and erythromycin resistance, was assessed in vitro and in vivo. Selective enumeration of the recombinant strain from indigenous rumen bacteria was performed using an erythromycin-supplemented anaerobic medium.
