Suspensory Tethers and Critical Point Membrane Displacement in Endolymphatic Hydrops

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2017
Introduction Grossly displaced membranes are characteristic of endolymphatic hydrops. The process whereby physiological membrane displacement becomes pathological may be mediated by stress, but the membrane biomechanics underlying this transition are ...

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Hidden penile fracture: An unusual presentation and review of literature

open access: yesUrology Annals, 2015
Penile fractures, a not so uncommon urological emergency, mostly present with a characteristic history and physical examination. Here, we present an atypical case where even in the absence of physical findings, a characteristic history led us to penile ...

Don’t Lose Your Heart to a Car. Extracorporeal Ejection of the Heart by Forceful Upward Thoraco-abdominal Blunt Trauma in Human and Animal.

open access: yesAlbanian Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, 2020
The traumatic extracorporeal ejection of a beating heart has not been witnessed and reported in the literature previously, to our knowledge. Here we present two cases of vehicle accidents leading to this fatal injury, both in a rabbit and a human ...

Impact of rainfall variability and land-use changes on river discharge in Sanaga catchment (forest–savannah transition zone in Central Africa)

open access: yesHydrology Research, 2022
Climate change/variability and land-use changes are the main forcings of river discharges variability. However, an understanding of their simultaneous impacts on river discharges remains limited in some parts of the world like in Central Africa.

Uplift and subsidence associated with the great Aceh-Andaman earthquake of 2004 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Rupture of the Sunda megathrust on 26 December 2004 produced broad regions of uplift and subsidence. We define the pivot line separating these regions as a first step in defining the lateral extent and the downdip limit of rupture during that great M_w ≈

Surface Rupture of Multiple Crustal Faults in the 2016 Mw 7.8 Kaikōura, New Zealand, Earthquake

open access: yesBulletin of The Seismological Society of America (BSSA), 2018
Multiple (>20 >20 ) crustal faults ruptured to the ground surface and seafloor in the 14 November 2016 M w Mw 7.8 Kaikōura earthquake, and many have been documented in detail, providing an opportunity to understand the factors controlling multifault

P‐glycoprotein modulates the fluidity gradient of the plasma membrane of multidrug resistant CHO cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Reconstruction After Distal Biceps Tendon Rupture

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2012
Distal biceps ruptures are relatively uncommon, but should be diagnosed and treated promptly to have good outcome. In this review article we will briefly summarize the anatomy and mechanism of injury, but the focus of this article will be on diagnosis ...
