Rupture dynamics of flat colloidal films
Here, we report experimental results on the rupture of flat colloidal films over a large range of volume fractions, 0.00 $\le ϕ\le$ 0.47. The films are formed using a constant fluid volume, ruptured with a needle, and recorded using a high-speed camera.

Rupture Dynamics of Heterogeneous Frictional Interfaces [PDF]
AbstractThe onset of sliding motion is conditional on the propagation of rupture fronts that detach the contacting asperities forming a frictional interface. These ruptures, when propagating over a fault surface, are the most common mechanism for an earthquake.

Stability of pulse-like earthquake ruptures [PDF]
Pulse-like ruptures arise spontaneously in many elastodynamic rupture simulations and seem to be the dominant rupture mode along crustal faults. Pulse-like ruptures propagating under steady-state conditions can be efficiently analysed theoretically, but ...

Analysis of the effects of stent-induced deformation on the hemodynamics of MCA aneurysms
The use of a stent to coil an aneurysm can alter the position of the main blood vessel and affect blood flow within the sac. This study thoroughly examines the impact of stent-induced changes on the risk of MCA aneurysm rupture.

Dynamic model of fiber bundles
A realistic continuous-time dynamics for fiber bundles is introduced and studied both analytically and numerically. The equation of motion reproduces known stationary-state results in the deterministic limit while the system under non-vanishing stress ...

Non-monotonic dependence of the friction coefficient on heterogeneous stiffness
The complexity of the frictional dynamics at the microscopic scale makes difficult to identify all of its controlling parameters. Indeed, experiments on sheared elastic bodies have shown that the static friction coefficient depends on loading conditions,

Extracellular Matrix Dynamics and Fetal Membrane Rupture [PDF]
The extracellular matrix (ECM) plays an important role in determining cell and organ function: (1) it is an organizing substrate that provides tissue tensile strength; (2) it anchors cells and influences cell morphology and function via interaction with cell surface receptors; and (3) it is a reservoir for growth factors. Alterations in the content and

Dynamic shear rupture of steel plates [PDF]
Metallic sandwich panels with prismatic cores offer the potential for superior blast resistance relative to monolithic plates of equivalent areal density. However, under sufficiently high impulse, severe plastic strains can occur at the junctions of the face sheets and the core members shortly after arrival of the pressure wave but prior to significant
