Pear fire blight control tests 1973

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1974
Copper compounds were the only currently registered bactericides that controlled streptomycin-resistant strains of firelight bacteria in Bartlett pear trees, but they induced considerable amounts of fruit russet.

Avoiding ethylene concentrations in harvested lettuce

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1978
At almost any stage of the handling process, lettuce may be exposed to ethylene gas, trace amounts of which can cause russet spotting.

Russeting of bartlett pears: Experiments in 1953 indicate some factor other than copper in fire blight control is cause of russeting

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1954
Copper dusts–applied to Bartlett pear trees during the blossoming period– were not the primary cause of fruit russet, during the 1953 season.

THE VALUE TO CONSUMERS OF GM FOOD LABELS IN A MARKET WITH ASYMMETRIC INFORMATION: EVIDENCE FROM EXPERIMENTAL AUCTIONS [PDF]

open access: yes
With the controversy over genetically modified (GM) foods continuing to grow, there has been a major push for mandatory labeling of GM foods by consumer advocacy and environmental groups in the United States.

Controlling prune russet scab

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1968
Prune russet scab, sometimes called lacy scab, was reduced to an insignificant level in the 1967 season by one application of a fungicidal spray during the full bloom period. Both Captan and Phygon (dichlone) proved successful and may be used by prune-growers. Difolatan (folcid), another chemical used in these tests, is not registered for use on prunes

Consumer Acceptance of Genetically Modified Foods: Traits, Labels and Diverse Information [PDF]

open access: yes
New experimental economic methods are described and used to assess consumers' willingness to pay for food products that might be made from new transgenic and intragenic genetically modified (GM) traits.

Controlled environment life support system: Growth studies with potatoes [PDF]

open access: yes
Results of experiments conducted to maximize the productivity of potatoes grown under controlled environmental conditions are discussed. A variety of parameters is examined which affect potato growth, specifically, photoperiod, light intensity ...
