Multi‐Target Mechanisms of Moroccan Aphrodisiac Plants: An Integrative Computational and Phytochemical Investigation

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Moroccan medicinal plants with in silico‐approved aphrodisiac effects provide 94 phytochemicals. Docking against PDE5, AR, ERα, and aromatase gives top scores for lutein (−10.6), baicalein (−9.5), liquiritigenin (−9.2), and procyanidins (−9.7). ADMET filtering passes baicalein and liquiritigenin but excludes lutein and procyanidins. MD simulations (200

Enzymatic synthesis of bioactive quinolones and (thio)coumarins by fungal type III polyketide synthases

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 9, Page 2673-2691, May 2026.
Quinolones are valuable scaffolds for drug discovery but are rare in nature. Here, we show that two fungal enzymes, AthePKS and FerePKS, can generate 2‐quinolones and two additional heteroaromatic scaffolds. Using AthePKS, we designed an artificial enzymatic cascade towards an antimicrobial quinolone from a simple precursor and implemented it in E ...

Biodegradable Coatings with Essential Oils for Combating Papaya Anthracnose: State of the Art and Perspectives

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, Volume 5, Issue 1, Page 138-151, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Papaya (Carica papaya L.) production and marketability are strongly constrained by postharvest diseases, with anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum spp. representing the most significant threat. Traditional control relies on synthetic fungicides, which, although effective, face challenges such as the development of pathogen resistance ...

Uso de extractos botánicos para el control de pulgón (Myzus persicae: Aphididae) y mosca blanca (Bemisia tabaci: Aleyrodidae) en el cultivo de pimiento (Capsicum anuum: Solanaceae), en Ecuador

open access: yesTerra Latinoamericana, 2022
Los extractos botánicos son ampliamente usados para el control de plagas en la agricultura, sin embargo, muy poco se conoce sobre su efecto en el control del pulgón verde (Myzus persicae) y mosca blanca (Bemisia

Uncovering the Key Factors Influencing Phytochemical and Phytopharmacological Properties During Medicinal Plant Processing

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 1, February 2026.
From farm to pharma, this review details the engineering of quality in medicinal plants through a science‐driven approach: it first elucidates how genetic and environmental factors inscribe the plant's phytochemical and phytopharmacological profile before harvest, and then dissects the postharvest techniques and technologies—chemical and thermal pre ...

Eco‐Sustainable Spearmint Essential Oil Nanoemulsion–Chitosan Coating Enhances Postharvest Quality and Phytonutrient Retention of “Tango” Mandarins (Citrus reticulata)

open access: yesJournal of Food Processing and Preservation, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Development of edible coating from a combination of chitosan (CH) polymer and nano (S) essential oil (EO) has gained commercial recognition for its safe and effective impact on fruit quality preservation over conventional chemical fungicides. Conventional chemical fungicides used for postharvest quality extension pose health and environmental concerns,
