We propose a direct test of the existence of gauge duals for nonsupersymmetric asymptotically free gauge theories developing an infrared fixed point by computing the S-parameter in the electric and dual magnetic description. In particular we show that at

BVRI Surface Photometry of (S+S) Binary Galaxies. I. The data [PDF]
We present multicolour broad band ($BVRI$) photometry for a sample of 33 spiral-spiral (S+S) binary galaxies drawn from the Karachentsev Catalogue of Isolated Pairs of Galaxies (KPG).

New Physics in b --> s bar(s) s Decay
We perform a model-independent analysis of the data on branching ratios and CP asymmetries of $B\to\phi K$ and $B\to\eta^{(')} K^{(*)}$ modes. The present data is encouraging to look for indirect evidences of physics beyond the Standard Model.

2-aminophenols containing electron-withdrawing groups from N-aryl hydroxylamines [PDF]
Reaction of substituted N-aryl hydroxylamines with methanesulfonyl chloride, p-toluenesulfonyl chloride, or trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride under basic conditions leads to the rearranged 2-aminophenols (45-94%).

Evolution of Floral Scent in Clarkia: Novel Patterns of S-Linalool Synthase Gene Expression in the C. breweri Flower [PDF]
Flowers of Clarkia breweri, an annual plant from the coastal range of California, emit a strong sweet scent of which S-linalool, an acyclic monoterpene, is a major component. Chromosomal, chemical, and morphological data, and the species' geographic distribution, suggest that C. breweri evolved from an extant nonscented species, C. concinna.

S-(+)- and R-(-)-linalool: a comparison of the in vitro anti-Aeromonas hydrophila activity and anesthetic properties in fish [PDF]
Linalool is the main compound of many essential oils and occurs in two isomeric forms: S-(+)- and R-(-)-linalool. This study aimed to determine if linalool isomers have different antimicrobial and anesthetic properties in fish. For this purpose, these compounds were previously isolated from Lippia alba (Mill.)N. E.

Practical jokes: don Delillo´s ratner´s star and literary games [PDF]
“Literary games” are strategies employed by writers to draw attention to, to disrupt, and even to subvert the conventions of literary production and reading.

An unbiased approach elucidates variation in ( S )-(+)-linalool, a context-specific mediator of a tri-trophic interaction in wild tobacco [PDF]
Plant volatile organic compounds (VOCs) mediate many interactions, and the function of common VOCs is especially likely to depend on ecological context. We used a genetic mapping population of wild tobacco, Nicotiana attenuata , originating from a cross of 2 natural accessions from Arizona and Utah, separated by the

The XXX spin s quantum chain and the alternating $s^{1}$, $s^{2}$ chain with boundaries [PDF]
The integrable XXX spin s quantum chain and the alternating $s^{1}$, $s^{2}$ ($s^{1}-s^{2}={1\over 2}$) chain with boundaries are considered. The scattering of their excitations with the boundaries via the Bethe ansatz method is studied, and the exact ...
