Termination of the s-PROCESS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1967
The nucleosynthesis of heavy stable nuclei by successive captures of neutrons in a weak neutron flux (the s-process) is terminated at large atomic weight by alpha decay to isotopes of lead. We analyze the details of this termination and calculate the abundances of lead and bismuth isotopes synthesized by the exposure of lighter nuclei to neutrons.

S-process nucleosynthesis during Hot dredge-ups

open access: yesNuclear Physics A, 2005
We present new results of the nucleosynthesis of s-elements in hot AGB stars. In the framework of the overshoot model, we show that the s-process nucleosynthesis depends sensitively on the thermodynamical conditions of the mixing zone and depending on the stellar mass and unknown overshoot parameter a large variety of s-process efficiencies can be ...

NuGrid: s process in massive stars [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of 10th Symposium on Nuclei in the Cosmos — PoS(NIC X), 2009
The s-process production in massive stars at very low metallicities is expected to be negligible due to the low abundance of the neutron source 22Ne, to primary neutron poisons and decreasing iron seed abundances. However, recent models of massive stars including the effects of rotation show that a strong production of 22Ne is possible in the helium ...

A New Method to Obtain Neutrons with Maxwellian Energy Distribution for Nuclear Astrophysics Study

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
To generate a neutron beam exhibiting a Maxwellian energy distribution with narrow emission angles for measuring the neutron capture reaction rates of the s-process nuclides, a monoenergetic 3.4 MeV proton beam produced by the tandem-accelerator in the ...

Quality enhancement of fruits conserved with essential oils prolonging storage

open access: yesBiotechnologie, Agronomie, Société et Environnement, 2022
Description of the subject. Raspberries and strawberries are highly perishable due to postharvest fungal development. Numerous studies have shown that essential oils can be promising biopesticides for maintaining the quality of fresh fruit during ...

s-Process Elements and Galactic Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1977
Among the observations of heavy s-process elements at the surface of very metal poor stars (population II stars), Peterson 1976 and Spite and Spite 1977 recently showed that the ratio of the abundances of these elements against that of Fe increases with increasing [Fe/H].

Communication and Language Profiles of Children Treated for Posterior Fossa Brain Tumors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cognitive and language deficits are frequently reported sequelae of posterior fossa brain tumors (PFBT). Typically, delayed onset impedes prompt assessment and early intervention. This has devastating implications for quality of life.

Potential Industrial Applications and Commercialization of Microalgae in the Functional Food and Feed Industries: A Short Review

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2019
Bioactive compounds, e.g., protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids, vitamins and minerals, found in commercial form of microalgal biomass (e.g., powder, flour, liquid, oil, tablet, or capsule forms) may play important roles in functional food ...

The HIT Network for Children and Adolescents With CNS Tumors Facilitates Improvements of Diagnostic Assessments, Multimodal Treatments, Individual Counseling, and Research in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The HIT network was established in 2000 to create a population‐based structure aiming to improve survival rates and reduce late effects for children with central nervous system (CNS) tumors by conducting comprehensive clinical trials.

The Ongoing Deep Underground Measurement of 22Ne(α,n)25Mg at the Ion Beam Facility of the INFN-LNGS

open access: yesGalaxies
The 22Ne(α,n)25Mg reaction is of major importance in nuclear astrophysics. It is the main neutron source for the weak s-process and as such is responsible for the nucleosynthesis of 60 < A < 90 elements.
