Termination of the s-PROCESS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1967
The nucleosynthesis of heavy stable nuclei by successive captures of neutrons in a weak neutron flux (the s-process) is terminated at large atomic weight by alpha decay to isotopes of lead. We analyze the details of this termination and calculate the abundances of lead and bismuth isotopes synthesized by the exposure of lighter nuclei to neutrons.

S-process nucleosynthesis during Hot dredge-ups

open access: yesNuclear Physics A, 2005
We present new results of the nucleosynthesis of s-elements in hot AGB stars. In the framework of the overshoot model, we show that the s-process nucleosynthesis depends sensitively on the thermodynamical conditions of the mixing zone and depending on the stellar mass and unknown overshoot parameter a large variety of s-process efficiencies can be ...

The s Process: Nuclear Physics, Stellar Models, Observations

open access: yes, 2010
Nucleosynthesis in the s process takes place in the He burning layers of low mass AGB stars and during the He and C burning phases of massive stars. The s process contributes about half of the element abundances between Cu and Bi in solar system material.

Detection of Lead in the Carbon-Rich, Very Metal-Poor Star LP625-44: A Strong Constraint on s-Process Nucleosynthesis at Low Metallicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We report the detection of the Pb I 4057.8A line in the very metal-poor ([Fe/H]=-2.7), carbon-rich star, LP625-44. We determine the abundance of Pb ([Pb/Fe] = 2.65) and 15 other neutron-capture elements.

NuGrid: s process in massive stars [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of 10th Symposium on Nuclei in the Cosmos — PoS(NIC X), 2009
The s-process production in massive stars at very low metallicities is expected to be negligible due to the low abundance of the neutron source 22Ne, to primary neutron poisons and decreasing iron seed abundances. However, recent models of massive stars including the effects of rotation show that a strong production of 22Ne is possible in the helium ...

The s-process in stellar population synthesis: a new approach to understanding AGB stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Thermally pulsating asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars are the main producers of slow neutron capture (s-) process elements, but there are still large uncertainties associated with the formation of the main neutron source, 13C, and with the physics of ...

A New Method to Obtain Neutrons with Maxwellian Energy Distribution for Nuclear Astrophysics Study

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
To generate a neutron beam exhibiting a Maxwellian energy distribution with narrow emission angles for measuring the neutron capture reaction rates of the s-process nuclides, a monoenergetic 3.4 MeV proton beam produced by the tandem-accelerator in the ...

Mairá-Potato (Casimirella sp.): Botanical, Food, Pharmacological, and Phytochemical Aspects

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Millions of people in the world live in food insecurity, so identifying a tuber with characteristics capable of meeting the demand for food and also identifying active compounds that can be used to minimize harm to human health is of great value. The aim

s-Process Elements and Galactic Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1977
Among the observations of heavy s-process elements at the surface of very metal poor stars (population II stars), Peterson 1976 and Spite and Spite 1977 recently showed that the ratio of the abundances of these elements against that of Fe increases with increasing [Fe/H].

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...
