Barium stars and the s-process
Theoretical s-process calculations are presented. Isotopic abundances are summed, so that atomic number Z becomes the independent variable. This form of representation of the calculations has distinct advantages in the interpretation of stellar data, since one generally does not have isotopic information.

Detailed homogeneous abundance studies of 14 Galactic s-process enriched post-AGB stars: In search of lead (Pb) [PDF]
Context. This paper is part of a larger project in which we systematically study the chemical abundances of Galactic and extragalactic post-asymptotic giant branch (post-AGB) stars.

NSAIDs as a Drug Repurposing Strategy for Biofilm Control
Persistent infections, usually associated with biofilm-producing bacteria, are challenging for both medical and scientific communities. The potential interest in drug repurposing for biofilm control is growing due to both disinvestment in antibiotic R&D ...

Data for the s Process from n_TOF
A considerable amount of (n, γ) reactions has been studied, so far, at the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF at CERN. The experimental program aims at determining and improving cross sections for a number of isotopes relevant to s-process nucleosynthesis. A brief summary of some physical cases related to the s-process nucleosyntheis is presented in

To Ba or not to Ba: Enrichment in s-process elements in binary systems with WD companions of various masses [PDF]
Context. The enrichment in s-process elements of barium stars is known to be due to pollution by mass transfer from a companion formerly on the thermally-pulsing asymptotic giant branch (AGB), now a carbon-oxygen white-dwarf (WD). Aims.

A New Method to Obtain Neutrons with Maxwellian Energy Distribution for Nuclear Astrophysics Study
To generate a neutron beam exhibiting a Maxwellian energy distribution with narrow emission angles for measuring the neutron capture reaction rates of the s-process nuclides, a monoenergetic 3.4 MeV proton beam produced by the tandem-accelerator in the ...

Broad levels in 17 O and their relevance for the astrophysical s process [PDF]
Levels in $^{17}$O affect the astrophysical s-process in two opposite ways. The neutron production is enhanced by resonances in the $^{13}$C($\alpha$,$n$)$^{16}$O reaction at excitation energies around 7 MeV in $^{17}$O, and the number of available ...

Probing astrophysically important states in the Mg 26 nucleus to study neutron sources for the s process [PDF]
Background: The ²²Ne(α,n) ²⁵Mg reaction is the dominant neutron source for the slow neutron capture process (s process) in massive stars, and contributes, together with C¹³(α,n)O¹⁶, to the production of neutrons for the s process in asymptotic giant ...
