Apple Cultivation and Breeding in Afghanistan: S-RNase Genotypes and Search System for Suitable Cultivar Combination

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, 2016
We investigated S-RNase genotypes of nine useful Afghan apple cultivars including six original cultivars and one rootstock. We also determined S-RNase genotypes of 11 apple cultivars and lineages and seven rootstocks in Japan. We speculated regarding the

A Tobacco S-like RNase Inhibits Hyphal Elongation of Plant Pathogens

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2002
Ribonuclease (RNase) NE gene expression is induced in tobacco leaves in response to Phytophthora parasitica. Using antibodies directed against RNase NE, we demonstrate that RNase NE is extracellular at the early steps of the interaction, while the fungal

Identification of S-genotypes and a novel S-RNase in 84 native Chinese pear accessions

open access: yesHorticultural Plant Journal, 2022
The Chinese pear (Pyrus spp.) exhibits typical gametophytic self-incompatibility (GSI), which inhibits self-crossing and promotes out-crossing, similar to other fruit species in the Rosaceae family.

Identification of regions in which positive selection may operate in S‐RNase of Rosaceae: Implication for S‐allele‐specific recognition sites in S‐RNase [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1998
A stylar S‐RNase is associated with gametophytic self‐incompatibility in the Rosaceae, Solanaceae, and Scrophulariaceae. This S‐RNase is responsible for S‐allele‐specific recognition in the self‐incompatible reaction, but how it functions in specific discrimination is not clear. Window analysis of the numbers of synonymous (dS ) and non‐synonymous (dN )

Cryo-EM structure of catalytic ribonucleoprotein complex RNase MRP

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
Ribozyme-based RNase MRP is an essential eukaryotic enzyme involved in the maturation of rRNA and is evolutionarily related to RNase P. Here, the authors present the 3.0 Å cryo-EM structure of the S.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Genotype and phenotype of Nicotiana alata x Nicotina rastroensis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
only availableGametophytic self-incompability (SI) is a process which enables plants to prevent inbreeding depression by rejecting self-pollen and pollen from closely related individuals. S-specific pollen rejection is controlled on a multi-allelic locus,

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Molecular analysis of S-haplotypes in peach, a self-compatible Prunus species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The most commercially grown peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.] cultivars do not require cross-pollination for reasonable fruit set; however, self-incompatibility is a well-known feature within the Prunoideae subfamily. Isoelectric focusing and native

A conformational RNA zipper promotes intron ejection during non-conventional XBP1 mRNA splicing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The kinase/endonuclease IRE1 is the most conserved signal transducer of the unfolded protein response (UPR), an intracellular signaling network that monitors and regulates the protein folding capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
