Purification and characterization of a peptide essential for formation of streptolysin S by Streptococcus pyogenes [PDF]
Peptides in a pronase digest of bovine serum albumin were required for streptolysin S formation by Streptococcus pyogenes besides maltose and a carrier (the oligonucleotide fraction obtained by treatment of Saccharomyces cerevisiae RNA with RNase A). A peptide essential for streptolysin S formation was purified to homogeneity from a pronase digest of ...

Discovery and Biosynthesis of the Novel Glycotetrapeptide Antibiotic Biffamycin A
Genetic de‐regulation of a silent biosynthetic pathway allowed isolation and characterisation of a novel glycopeptide antibiotic named biffamycin A, which harbours unprecedented 5‐chloro‐4‐methoxy tryptophan and 3R‐hydroxy(α‐D‐mannoysl)‐D‐lysine moieties and is bioactive against MRSA and VRSA.

Arginine deiminase is a bacterial enzyme that hydrolyses arginine with citrulline and ammonia formation. In recent years, increasing evidence is reported about in vitro and in vivo anti-angiogenic action of arginine deiminase from Mycoplasma spp.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Streptococcus pyogenes-purpura fulminans as an invasive form of group A streptococcal infection
Background Streptococcus pyogenes is an uncommon pathogen of purpura fulminans, and the pathogenesis of S. pyogenes-purpura fulminans remains unclear because of paucity of cases. We reported a pediatric case of S.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
