Operating room use of hypertonic solutions: a clinical review
Hyperosmotic-hyperoncotic solutions have been widely used during prehospital care of trauma patients and have shown positive hemodynamic effects. Recently, there has been a growing interest in intra-operative use of hypertonic solutions.

The role of the vagus nerve in hypertonic resuscitation of hemorrhagic shocked dogs
Previous studies have suggested a critical role for the vagi during the hypertonic resuscitation of hemorrhagic shocked dogs. Vagal blockade prevented the full hemodynamic and metabolic recovery and increased mortality.

[Treatment of hypovolemia with hypertonic saline solutions].
Clinical and experimental studies indicate that intravenous infusion of small volumes of hypertonic saline may be beneficial in the treatment of acute hypovolemia. After infusion, cardiac output is increased and systemic vascular resistance is lowered. The effect is transient, however, but can be prolonged by adding a colloid solution.

Treatment of Experimental Ileus by Hypertonic Saline Solutions
Largely due to the observations of Hughson and Scarff1 that the intravenous administration of hypertonic sodium chloride solutions increased intestinal movement, hypertonic saline solutions have been used clinically in the treatment of ileus. To determine the relative effects of various hypertonic saline solutions the following investigation was ...
