Are there salinity stress proteins?

Marine Environmental Research, 1995
Abstract To establish whether osmotic stress can be separated from possible toxicant stress in Eurytemora affinis , protein synthesis was analyzed under various conditions of temperature and osmotic stress. Individual adult copepods raised at 10 ppt and 15 °C were exposed for 5 h to different temperature and salinity regimes.

Plant Response to Salinity Stress

2019
Salinity is a major abiotic stress, severely and adversely affecting crop productivity and functionality. The US Salinity Laboratory classified soils into four categories: normal soil, saline soil, sodic soil, and saline-sodic soil. Salinity adversely affects plant growth and development.

Salinity Stress in Harpacticoid Copepods

Estuaries, 1979
Three species of intertidal harpacticoid copepods,Tigriopus japonicus, Tachidius brevicornis andTisbe sp., were tested for their response to salinities ranging from 0‰ to 210‰. At 90‰Tigriopus became dormant, but could be reanimated if placed in 30‰ seawater within 18 hours.Tachidius became dormant at 60‰ but could also be revived if placed in 30 ...

Cold, salinity and drought stresses: An overview

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2005
World population is increasing at an alarming rate and is expected to reach about six billion by the end of year 2050. On the other hand food productivity is decreasing due to the effect of various abiotic stresses; therefore minimizing these losses is a major area of concern for all nations to cope with the increasing food requirements. Cold, salinity

The adaptation to salinity: Response of fish gill mitochondria to salinity stress

Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 1983
When a freshwater fish, Tilapia mossambica (now renamed Sarotherodon mossambicus) is exposed to a salinity stress, extensive changes are noted in the properties of the mitochondria isolated from the gill tissue. Our efforts were directed toward ascertaining the response of the gill mitochondria to an ion-osmotic shock to which the organism is exposed ...

Metabolomics for Crop Improvement Against Salinity Stress

2018
In the post-genomic era, increasing efforts have been done to describe the relationship between genome and phenotype in plants. It has become clear that even a complete understanding of the state of the genes, messages, and proteins in a living system does not reveal its phenotype.

Multiple abiotic stresses occurring with salinity stress in citrus

Environmental and Experimental Botany, 2014
Abstract Citrus, one of the most important fruit crops in the world, is sensitive to many environmental stresses including salt stress. The negative effects of stresses often lead to poor tree growth and reductions in fruit yield and quality. Under natural conditions, citrus trees often experience multiple stresses at the same time so there are ...

Floral Fragrances of Daffodil under Salinity Stress

2019
Daffodil is a valuable plant for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, therapeutical and industrial traits, and become an important in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. The volatile compounds of daffodil flowers were compared using HS/SPME-GC/MS (Headspace/Solid Phase Micro Extraction-Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) techniques grown in different ...

Effects of Salinity Stresses on Tobacco

Zeitschrift für Pflanzenphysiologie, 1980
Summary Callus cultures of N. tabacum (line 44) were grown on media containing various concentrations of seawater salts (SWP), NaCl and mannitol. The induced stresses inhibited the growth of the calli, prevented the formation of green color, and caused necrosis and death.

Salinity stress proteins in Eurytemora affinis

Hydrobiologia, 1994
Seasonal densities of Eurytemora affinis, a calanoid copepod in the Chesapeake Bay, seem to be controlled by temperature and salinity. To examine the role of osmotic stress we analyzed protein synthesis under various conditions of temperature and osmotic stress.
