Enstrophy and Ergodicity of Gravity Currents [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
We study a coupled deterministic system of vorticity evolution and salinity transport equations, with spatially correlated white noise on the boundary. This system may be considered as a model for gravity currents in oceanic fluids. The noise is due to uncertainty in salinity flux on fluid boundary.

Buoyancy-driven flow regimes for a melting vertical ice cylinder in saline water [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The presence of salt in seawater significantly affects the melt rate and morphological evolution of ice. This study investigates the melting process of a vertical cylinder in saline water using a combination of laboratory experiments and direct numerical simulations.

Salinity tolerance in plants: attempts to manipulate ion transport [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Ion transport is the major determining factor of salinity tolerance in plants. A simple scheme of a plant cell with ion fluxes provides basic understanding of ion transport and the corresponding changes of ion concentrations under salinity. The review describes in detail basic principles of ion transport for a plant cell, introduces set of transporters

Water and soil salinity management and Sslt redistribution in irrigation systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Soil salinity is present in most of the large irrigation schemes over the world under the conjunctive effect of low quality irrigation water, aridity and lack of natural drainage ofsoils and aquifers.

Risk assessment method for soil secondary salinization based on hydrological frequency analysis

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Soil salinization represents a major contributor to land degradation globally. Quantitative risk assessment of soil salinization provides the fundamental basis for effective salinity management strategies.

Ground Water Quantity and Quality Management: Agricultural Production and Aquifer Salinization over Long Time Scales [PDF]

open access: yes
An economic model of ground water salinization is developed. Starting from a full, high-quality aquifer, there is an initial extraction period, an intermediate waste disposal period, and a final drainage period.
