Using multivariate analysis, a novel emulgel adjuvant is developed by combining key nanoemulsion formulation variables–hydrogel trapping, small globule size, and mannide monooleate surfactant–achieving 10× greater immunogenicity than MF59 in mice after a single shot.

Editor, —We read with interest the papers by Reilly et al ( Gut 1997; 40: 454–8) and by Christie et al ( Gut 1996; 39: 27–30) focusing on the Helisal saliva assay (Cortecs Diagnostics, UK) for the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection. These papers reported that this test has a sensitivity of 84–88% and a specificity of 70–71%.

Aedes albopictus saliva contains a richer microbial community than the midgut
Background Past findings demonstrate that arthropods can egest midgut microbiota into the host skin leading to dual colonization of the vertebrate host with pathogens and saliva microbiome.

Assessing smoking status in children, adolescents and adults: cotinine cut-points revisited [PDF]
Aims To reassess saliva cotinine cut-points to discriminate smoking status. Cotinine cut-points that are in use were derived from relatively small samples of smokers and non-smokers 20 or more years ago.

Detachable and Reusable: Reinforced π‐Ion Film for Modular Synaptic Reservoir Computing
This study presents a reinforced π‐ion film for organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs), addressing the rapid degradation of organic semiconductor layers. By introducing a mesh support and utilizing a scalable solvent exchange method, the π‐ion film enhances detachability and stability.

Recent exposure to ultrafine particles in school children alters miR-222 expression in the extracellular fraction of saliva [PDF]
Background: Ultrafine particles (< 100 nm) are ubiquitous present in the air and may contribute to adverse cardiovascular effects. Exposure to air pollutants can alter miRNA expression, which can affect downstream signaling pathways.

Dissolution and phosphate-induced transformation of ZnO nanoparticles in synthetic saliva probed by AGNES without previous solid-liquid separation. Comparison with UF-ICP-MS [PDF]
The variation over time of free Zn2+ ion concentration in stirred dispersions of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) prepared in synthetic saliva at pH 6.80 and 37 degrees C was followed in situ (without solid liquid separation step) with the electroanalytical ...
