The Chromosome Constitutions of a Hybrid Salmonid and Its Parental Types: Salmo Gairdneri and Salmo Clarki

open access: yes, 2000
A study was undertaken to investigate the application of tissue culture and histochemical banding techniques normally used in mammalian studies to fish cells and to examine the mechanisms of chromosome evolution and speciation in salmonids by comparing the chromosomes of the hybrid to those of the parental types.

Assessment of Diagnostic Tools to Detect Acute Gas Bubble Disease in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar L.)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Currently, diagnosis of gas bubble disease (GBD) in fish relies on visual observations of bubbles in various body parts and exophthalmus. These observations lack quantified information about gas bubble load, limiting their diagnostic value.

Behaviour and Dispersal of Mobile Salmon Lice When Detached From the Host

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sea lice can flourish when salmon are farmed in open sea‐cages, necessitating treatments to control outbreaks and reduce larval export. However, mobile ectoparasitic stages can be dislodged during crowding or other procedures, and potentially reinfest farmed or wild fish.

Spleen as an Alternative Tissue for Estimating Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae Load, Prevalence and Its Relationship With Proliferative Kidney Disease in Brown Trout

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate pathogen detection is essential in fish health management and disease prevention. Pathogens often target different host tissues, and monitoring alternative target organs can provide important insights into disease progression. We evaluated the spleen as an alternative to the kidney for estimating the load and prevalence of the ...
