Substructure within Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Isolates from Australian Wildlife [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2011
ABSTRACT Multilocus sequence typing of 56 Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica strains isolated from Australian wildlife hosts was performed. The results of population assignment algorithms revealed that the 56 strains could be subdivided into two distinct clades.

Effect of soiling agents on disinfection efficacy of a pulsed‐xenon UV lamp towards Listeria monocytogenes on stainless steel surfaces

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
This study quantifies the effects of different soils found in the food processing environment on the efficiency of pulsed‐xenon UV disinfection. Abstract Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne illness that poses a significant threat to human health in young, old, and immunocompromised persons and accordingly, prevention of Listeria contamination is of ...

The Metabolic Pathway of Bile Secretion Is Vulnerable to Salmonella enterica Exposure in Porcine Intestinal Epithelial Cells

open access: yesAnimals
Pigs can be colonized with Salmonella enterica and become established carriers. However, the mechanisms of the host’s response to Salmonella enterica infection are largely unclear.

Multiresistant Salmonella enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- in Europe: a new pandemic strain? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A marked increase in the prevalence of S. enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- with resistance to ampicillin, streptomycin, sulphonamides and tetracyclines (R-type ASSuT) has been noted in food-borne infections and in pigs/pig meat in several European countries

Molecular typing of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Enteritidis isolates [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1996
A collection of 31 epidemiologically unrelated Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Enteritidis (S. Enteritidis) isolates obtained during a 12-year period was characterised by different molecular typing methods. Plasmid profile analysis, the detection of plasmid-encoded virulence genes and ribotyping allowed little or no further differentiation ...

Engineered Probiotics: The Next‐Generation Therapeutics to Combat Antibiotic‐Resistant Bacterial Infections

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Engineered probiotics secretes fusion proteins which potentially neutralized the toxins secreted by other microbial communities. ABSTRACT On a global scale, the escalating burden of infectious diseases, predominantly attributed to bacterial pathogens, especially drug‐resistant strains, has progressed into a critical concern for clinical management and ...
