Unlocking the Multifunctional Properties of Litsea cubeba Essential Oil: Composition, Antimicrobial, Antibiofilm and Insecticidal Activities

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
Unveiling the chemical and biological properties of Litsea cubeba essential oil. ABSTRACT Litsea cubeba essential oil (LCEO) is recognised for its broad spectrum of biological activities, including antimicrobial and insecticidal effects, making it a promising natural alternative to synthetic agents.

Multiresistant Salmonella enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- in Europe: a new pandemic strain? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A marked increase in the prevalence of S. enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- with resistance to ampicillin, streptomycin, sulphonamides and tetracyclines (R-type ASSuT) has been noted in food-borne infections and in pigs/pig meat in several European countries

The SseC translocon component in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium is chaperoned by SscA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Salmonella enterica is a causative agent of foodborne gastroenteritis and the systemic disease known as typhoid fever. This bacterium uses two type three secretion systems (T3SSs) to translocate protein effectors into host cells to manipulate

Salmonella Genomic Island 3 Is an Integrative and Conjugative Element and Contributes to Copper and Arsenic Tolerance of Salmonella enterica

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2019
Salmonella genomic island 3 (SGI3) was first described as a chromosomal island in Salmonella 4,[5],12:i:–, a monophasic variant of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium.

Multifunctional Properties of Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) Essential Oil: Antimicrobial, Antibiofilm, and Insecticidal Effects

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
Unveiling the potential of Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) essential oil. ABSTRACT This study investigated the antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and insecticidal properties of wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens L.) essential oil (GPEO). The EO was chemically characterized by GC–MS, confirming methyl salicylate as the predominant compound (99.3%).

Draft genome sequence of a Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi strain resistant to fourth-generation cephalosporin and fluoroquinolone antibiotics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Typhoid is endemic in developing countries. We report here the first draft genome sequence of a Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi clinical isolate from Pakistan exhibiting resistance to cefepime (a fourth-generation cephalosporin)

Genome Variation and Molecular Epidemiology of Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium Pathovariants

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 2018
Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium is one of approximately 2,500 distinct serovars of the genus Salmonella but is exceptional in its wide distribution in the environment, livestock, and wild animals. S.

Investigating the Impact of Three Washing Methods on Microbial Reduction, Color, and Texture of Spinach and Tomatoes

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The effectiveness of three washing methods (tap water, 0.01% sodium hypochlorite, and 1% citric acid) was investigated on spinach and tomatoes. The citric acid solution demonstrated the highest microbial reduction for both spinach and tomatoes, particularly during storage, and maintained the produce texture or color.

Std fimbriae-fucose interaction increases Salmonella-induced intestinal inflammation and prolongs colonization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Author summary The intestinal epithelium is a crucial biological interface, interacting with both commensal and pathogenic microorganisms. It’s lined with heavily glycosylated proteins and glycolipids which can act as both attachment sites and energy ...

First report of mcr-1-harboring Salmonella enterica serovar Schwarzengrund isolated from poultry meat in Brazil.

open access: yesDiagnostic microbiology and infectious disease, 2019
Brazilian poultry meat samples were screened for colistin-resistant Salmonella enterica. Sixty Salmonella isolates were tested for in vitro colistin resistance and mcr-1, mcr-2, mcr-3 and mcr-4 genes. Two isolates harbored the mcr-1 gene and whole-genome
