Endocarditis caused by Salmonella enteritidis. [PDF]

open access: bronzeHeart, 1979
A case of endocarditis caused by Salmonella enteritidis is reported in a 20-year-old African woman. This is only the fourth published case. The development of this rare infection in the patient reported here probably resulted from a reduction in immunity caused by pregnancy and a past splenectomy.

Protective effect of phage pSal-4 on chicken intestinal epithelial cells injured by Salmonella enteritidis [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Microbiology
Salmonella enteritidis plays a significant role in zoonotic infections. This pathogen settles in the intestinal tract of poultry and contaminates meat and egg products during production for slaughter.

The DNA adenine methylase of Salmonella Enteritidis promotes their intracellular replication by inhibiting arachidonic acid metabolism pathway in macrophages

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Macrophages can participate in immune responses by altering their metabolism, and play important roles in controlling bacterial infections. However, Salmonella Enteritidis can survive and proliferate in macrophages.

Antimicrobial resistance and related gene analysis of Salmonella from egg and chicken sources by whole-genome sequencing

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) is a valuable tool in research on foodborne pathogens. In this study, a total of 143 isolates of Salmonella serotypes Enteritidis, Typhimurium, and Heidelberg sourced from eggs and chickens were analyzed for their ...

Salmonella Typhi, Paratyphi A, Enteritidis and Typhimurium core proteomes reveal differentially expressed proteins linked to the cell surface and pathogenicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica contains more than 2,600 serovars of which four are of major medical relevance for humans. While the typhoidal serovars (Typhi and Paratyphi A) are human-restricted and cause enteric fever, non-typhoidal ...
