Tolerance to spikes: A comparison of sample and bubble entropy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bubble Entropy is a new metric aiming at the quantification of the entropy of a series, the most important property of which is the total elimination of the scale parameter (e.g., r when computing Sample Entropy) and the low dependency on the length of ...

Which Multivariate Multi-Scale Entropy Algorithm Is More Suitable for Analyzing the EEG Characteristics of Mild Cognitive Impairment?

open access: yes, 2023
So far, most articles using the multivariate multi-scale entropy algorithm mainly use algorithms to analyze the multivariable signal complexity without clearly describing what characteristics of signals these algorithms measure and what factors affect ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Moving approximate entropy and its application to the electromyographic control of an artificial hand

open access: yes, 2009
A multiple-degree-of-freedom artificial hand has been developed at the University of Southampton with the aim of including control philosophies to form a highly functional prosthesis hand.

On the use of approximate entropy and sample entropy with centre of pressure time-series

open access: yesJournal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, 2018
Background Approximate entropy (ApEn) and sample entropy (SampEn) have been previously used to quantify the regularity in centre of pressure (COP) time-series in different experimental groups and/or conditions. ApEn and SampEn are very sensitive to their

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Asymptotic consistency under large entropy sampling designs with unequal probabilities

open access: yes, 2011
A large part of survey sampling literature is devoted to unequal probabilities sampling designs without replacement. Brewer and Hanif (1983) provided a summary of these sampling designs. The maximum entropy designs is one of them.

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Nonlinear Parameters for Monitoring Gear: Comparison Between Lempel-Ziv, Approximate Entropy, and Sample Entropy Complexity

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2015
Vibration analysis is the most used technique for defect monitoring failures of industrial gearboxes. Detection and diagnosis of gear defects are thus crucial to avoid catastrophic failures. It is therefore important to detect early fault symptoms.

Sample entropy reveals high discriminative power between young and elderly adults in short fMRI data sets

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroinformatics, 2014
Some studies have placed Sample entropy on the same data length constraint of 10^m to 20^m (m: pattern length) as approximate entropy, even though Sample entropy is largely independent of data length and displays relative consistency over a broader range
