Range Entropy: A Bridge between Signal Complexity and Self-Similarity

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
Approximate entropy (ApEn) and sample entropy (SampEn) are widely used for temporal complexity analysis of real-world phenomena. However, their relationship with the Hurst exponent as a measure of self-similarity is not widely studied. Additionally, ApEn

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Estimation of Cost Allocation Coefficients at the Farm Level Using an Entropy Approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper aims to estimate the farm cost allocation coefficients from whole farm input costs. An entropy approach was developed under a Tobit formulation and was applied to a sample of farms from the 2004 FADN data base for Alentejo region, Southern ...

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Deriving the Efficiency Function for Type I Censored Sample from Exponential Distribution Using Sup-Entropy

open access: yes, 2012
This paper utilizes information theory to quantify Efficiency of Type I Censored sample drawn from Exponential Distribution and the consequent information loss due to Censoring.

Differences in EEG complexity of cognitive activities among subtypes of schizophrenia

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
IntroductionThe neural mechanisms that underpin cognitive impairments in patients with schizophrenia remain unclear. Previous studies have typically treated patients as a homogeneous group, despite the existence of distinct symptom presentations between ...

Transductive Feature Selection Using Clustering-Based Sample Entropy for Temperature Prediction in Weather Forecasting

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
Entropy measures have been a major interest of researchers to measure the information content of a dynamical system. One of the well-known methodologies is sample entropy, which is a model-free approach and can be deployed to measure the information ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.
