Based on an SAR speckle statistical model, the authors investigate the feasibility of segmenting SAR images based on a gray-level histogram for one-look and multilook processed SAR images. The classification errors are evaluated and a procedure for the multilevel thresholding of SAR images is devised.

Classical image compression algorithms such as discrete cosine transform (DCT), Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT), and subband decomposition using wavelet filters (SDWF) are well-understood for optical imaging. However, their applications to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images have not been well-studied.

The SAR images are corrupted by speckle noise. A new denoising method for this kind of images is reported in this paper. Inspired from the classical Donoho's denoising method, the procedure presented in this paper uses a new type of discrete wavelet transform, entitled Diversity Enhanced Discrete Wavelet Transform, DEDWT and a new filtering strategy ...

RADARSAT, the first Canadian remote-sensing spacecraft, is designed to provide Earth observation information for five years. The satellite is scheduled for launch in 1994. The only payload instrument is a 5.6-cm-wavelength (C-band) synthetic aperture imaging radar (SAR). RADARSAT will gather data on command for up to 28 min during each cycle of its 800-

We introduce a maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorithm and a sparse learning via iterative minimization (SLIM) algorithm to synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging. Both MAP and SLIM are sparse signal recovery algorithms with excellent sidelobe suppression and high resolution properties.

We investigate a recursive procedure for synthetic aperture imaging. We consider a concept in which a SAR system persistently interrogates a scene, for example as it flies along or around that scene. In traditional SAR imaging, the radar measurements are processed in blocks, by partitioning the data into a set of non-overlapping or overlapping ...

Higher resolution X-SAR images
1995 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, IGARSS '95. Quantitative Remote Sensing for Science and Applications, 2002A new class of X-SAR products-images with a geometrical resolution of 12.5 m by 12.5 m are introduced. A comparison with the standard 25 m by 25 m products is given. Despite of the enlarged amount of speckle these images show obviously a better 'quality' if geometric and not radiometric resolution is on demand.

Multi-baseline spaceborne SAR imaging
2016 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2016This paper provides an overview of the future development of spaceborne SAR systems with multi-baseline imaging capability like polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolInSAR), tomography (TomoSAR) and holography (HoloSAR). The goal is to fill the multi-dimensional data space with additional information from acquisitions having different spatial or temporal

In this chapter, we explain the fundamental principles of SAR data collection and image formation, i.e., inversion of the received data. Synthetic aperture radar uses microwaves for imaging the surface of the Earth from airplanes or satellites. Unlike photography which generates the picture by essentially recoding the intensity of the light reflected ...

Interferometric SAR images from holographic SAR data
Proceedings of IGARSS '93 - IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002Over the last two years the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) has been working to bring together three areas of investigation to advance the understanding of the electromagnetic scattering process and create usable images from the received data.
