Purification and characterization of three trypsin isoforms from viscera of sardinelle (Sardinella aurita)

Three trypsin isoforms A, B and C were purified to homogeneity from the viscera of sardinelle (Sardinella aurita). Purification was achieved by ammonium sulfate precipitation (20-70% (w/v)), Sephadex G-100 gel filtration and Mono Q-Sepharose anion-exchange chromatography.

Age and growth pattern of round sardinella, Sardinella aurita, in the eastern central Adriatic Sea

A total of 2, 033 round sardinella specimens were analysed from November 2007 to January 2009. A monthly random sampling of purse seine catches in the eastern central Adriatic Sea was used. The total length of males (N = 983) varied from 11.5 to 28.0 cm (mean ± SD = 21.8 ± 3.21 cm).

Mass mortality of gilt sardine, Sardinella aurita (Clupeidae), in the Adriatic and Ionian seas

A mass mortality of Sardinella aurita was observed along the south-eastern coasts of Italy and central Croatia in January 2002, coinciding with a sharp drop in sea water temperature. The observations reported in this study and the available information suggest that thermal shock may be the most likely mechanism to explain the phenomenon.

The total length of males (N = 983) varied from 11.5 to 28.0 cm (mean ± SD = 21.8 ± 3.21 cm). It ranged from 11.0 to 32.5 cm (mean ± SD = 22.5 ± 3.67 cm) for females
