Compact SAR: A flexible multimission SAR satellite

2015 IEEE 5th Asia-Pacific Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar (APSAR), 2015
Thales Alenia Space (TAS) has started the “COMPACT-SAR” internal programme to develop a SAR satellite characterized by low cost and reduced mass while providing, at the same time, high image quality in terms of resolution, swath size, and radiometric performance.

Launches of Pol-In-SAR satellite sensors and results of satellite tandem-SAR TanDEM-X

Proceedings of the 9th International Symposium on Antennas, Propagation and EM Theory, 2010
With the un-abating global population increase our natural resources are stressed as never before, and the global day/night monitoring of the terrestrial covers from the mesosphere to the litho-sphere becomes all the more urgent. Microwave radar sensors are ideally suited for space imaging because those are almost weather independent.

Topaz II nuclear powered SAR satellite

Space Programs and Technologies Conference and Exhibit, 1994
Abstract : The AA4871 Spacecraft Design course is the capstone class for the M.S. in Astronautics at the Naval Postgraduate School. The design team integrated a Topaz II nuclear power system with an EOS Synthetic Aperture Radar to design a low Earth orbit, three axis stabilized satellite flying in a gravity gradient stable orientation.

Analysis of the virtual baseline of cluster SAR satellites

IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004
The change of the virtual baseline (equivalent baseline or projection of baseline) of cluster SAR satellites is analyzed when the constellation is circling around the Earth and at the same time the satellites are rotating around the center. This paper provides the assessment of baseline error, which influence on the precision of height measurement in ...

Design of Satellite Formations for Interferometric and Bistatic SAR

2007 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2007
This paper deals with orbit design for formation missions aimed at interferometric and bistatic SAR observation. In particular, an analytical second order model is derived and discussed, which describes relative motion between two satellites both moving on low eccentricity orbits.

Multichromatic Analysis of Satellite Wideband SAR Data

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2014
The multichromatic analysis (MCA) can be applied to interferometric pairs of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images processed at range subbands and consists of exploring the phase trend of each pixel as a function of the different central carrier frequencies.

L-band SAR-processor for the Chinese SAR Satellite

Proceedings. ICCEA 2004. 2004 3rd International Conference on Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications, 2004., 2005
The SAR processor was developed for fast delivery of high-resolution images from the Chinese CRS-1 satellite based on Pentium IV technology. Through testing, all the following requirements were met at an acceptable hardware and software cost: fast delivery time; high resolution; high precision.

Compact and Free-Floating Satellite MIMO SAR Formations

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2022
We discuss a coherent synthetic aperture radar (SAR) formation where N identical sensors transmit at the same time, code, and frequency. This is a particular multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, where the transmitted waveforms interfere together, resulting in an illumination pattern that randomly changes in space and time.

Spaceborne demonstration of coherent SAR tomography for future companion satellite SAR missions

2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017
This contribution is dedicated to present tomographic investigations on 3D vegetation imaging for future spaceborne SAR missions. The main problem to tackle when performing tomography via repeat-pass spaceborne data is that the temporal decorrelation between acquisitions can be very severe making it difficult to achieve reliable results.

Satellite SAR and Human Settlement Detection

2007 Urban Remote Sensing Joint Event, 2007
Due to the peculiar features of human settlement areas, with enormous variance of objects and the resulting variability and possibly also ambiguity of data, such areas represent the most demanding cases for information extraction from SAR data. This research is particularly aimed at human settlement mapping at a regional scale.
