The Equilibrium Time and Salt Expansion Characteristic of Sulfate Saline Soil upon Cooling

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2021
The salt expansion disease is severe for the soil containing sodium sulfate in cold regions. This paper carried out one-dimensional salt expansion tests of saline soil, the crystallization test of saturated sodium sulfate solution, and the numerical ...

Anomalous diffusion in an electrolyte saturated paper matrix

open access: yes, 2019
Diffusion of colored dye on water saturated paper substrates has been traditionally exploited with great skill by renowned water color artists. The same physics finds more recent practical applications in paper based diagnostic devices deploying ...

Evaluation of hydro-mechano-chemical behaviour of bentonite-sand mixtures

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2022
Bentonite-sand mixtures are widely used in engineering barrier of deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive nuclear waste and anti-seepage barrier of civil geotechnical engineering.

Salt crystallisation at the surface of a heterogeneous porous medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Evaporation of saline solutions from a porous medium often leads to the precipitation of salt at the surface of the porous medium. It is commonly observed that the crystallized salt does not form everywhere at the porous medium surface but only at some ...

Constitutive theory of geomaterials saturated with salt solution and its application in clay

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
The chemical activity of ions in salt solution will change the mechanical properties of saturated geomaterials, inducing geotechnical problems such as deterioration or even failure of engineering properties.

Measurement and modeling of water sorption isotherm for salt‐laden autoclaved aerated concrete

open access: yesJapan Architectural Review, 2018
The authors reported on the measurement of water sorption isotherms for autoclaved aerated concrete, commonly called “autoclaved lightweight concrete” in Japan, containing aqueous salt (sodium chloride or magnesium chloride) solutions in concentrations ...

Study on the Tri-axial Time-Dependent Deformation and Constitutive Model of Glauberite Salt Rock under the Coupled Effects of Compression and Dissolution

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Solution mining for glauberite salt rock is a long-term process that takes several years to several decades. Therefore, deposit deformations and subsidence of ground surfaces are time-dependent deformation problems that should consider the effect of ...

Salt crystallization dynamics in building rocks: a 4D study using laboratory X-ray micro-CT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We employ laboratory X-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT) during climate-controlled salt weathering experiments to acquire data on the kinetics of drying and salt precipitation and the distribution of crystals within the pore space of Mšené sandstone ...

Permeability of mixed soft and hard granular material: hydrogels as drainage modifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We measure the flow of water through mixed packings of glass spheres and soft swellable hydrogel grains, at constant sample volume. Permeability values are obtained at constant sample volume and at porosities smaller than random close packing, for ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
