On the torque mechanism of Savonius rotors

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1992
Abstract The aerodynamic performance and the flow fields of Savonius rotors at various overlap ratios have been investigated by measuring the pressure distributions on the blades and by visualizing the flow fields in and around the rotors with and without rotation. Experiments have been performed on four rotors having two semicircular blades but with

Performance Characteristics of Vertical-Axis Off-Shore Savonius Wind and Savonius Hydrokinetic Turbines

Volume 10: Ocean Renewable Energy, 2018
The rise in energy demand, climate change and depletion of fossil fuel, encourages the researchers to find a solution to the scarcity of clean energy. Therefore, the extraction of energy from renewable energy sources has become a topic of interest in the past few decades across the globe.

Layout optimization of Savonius-turbine clusters and investigation of linear Savonius wind farms

2019
Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are compact, costless, less noisy and operate at low cut-in wind speed, which are promising for applications in urban environment. Their performance could be further improved by coupling with each other constructively in clusters.

Savonius water current meter

WESCON/97 Conference Proceedings, 2002
Since the invention of the Savonius Rotor, people have been using rapidly an analog instrument to measure the ocean water current. The limited accuracy of an analog instrument result in a new digital instrument. This project was designing a digital instrument for Ocean Engineering Department.

Numerical Investigation of Savonius Wind Turbines

2023
In this study, we aimed to explore the potential of integrating wind turbines into tall buildings to harness wind energy in urban areas. Advanced computer simulations will be used to analyze the complex wind patterns and turbulence around tall buildings. We will also study the optimization of wind turbine placement to maximize energy production.

Savonius rotor as a part of complex systems

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2019
Abstract Savonius rotor is considered as an element of mechanical or electromechanical systems. An empirical approach is proposed for describing the aerodynamic torque basing on available data from physical and computational experiments. A stand-alone wind power generator based on the Savonius rotor is examined where the electromechanical interaction

Performance of Combined Water Turbine Darrieus-Savonius with Two Stage Savonius Buckets and Single Deflector

2016
The objective of this study is to show the effect of single deflector plate on the performance of combined Darrieus-Savonius water turbine. In order to overcome the disadvantages of low torque of solo Darrieus turbine, a plate deflector mounted in front of returning Savonius bucket of combined water turbine composing of Darrieus and Savonius rotor has ...
