Blade Count and Rotational Speed Sensitivity of Vertical‐Axis Turbines Under Guided Vehicle‐Generated Transient Wakes

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 14, Issue 7, Page 3324-3345, July 2026.
Passing vehicles generate short‐duration wakes that can be redirected toward a vertical‐axis turbine. The interaction between wake structure, blade count, and rotational speed governs transient torque production. Low‐solidity configurations combined with tuned rotational speed enhance energy extraction under vehicle‐induced gusts.

Study on the Interaction between Two Hydrokinetic Savonius Turbines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2012
Savonius turbine is simple in design and easy to fabricate at a lower cost. The drag is the basic driving force for Savonius turbine. Savonius turbines are mainly used for the small-scale electricity generation in remote areas.

The aerodynamics of a Savonius blade

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Faced with the energy crisis and global warming, renewable energies are emerging as a key response, particularly wind power. Among these various technologies, vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) present a promising energy source in rural areas. The Savonius rotor, a drag-driven device, one of the famous vertical axis wind turbine designs, offers many ...

Efficient Harvesting of Irregular and Low‐Frequency Mechanical Energy via Hybridized Electromagnetic‐Triboelectric Systems

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 39, 13 July 2026.
ABSTRACT The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable electronics necessitates sustainable power sources to replace the limited electrochemical battery. While mechanical energy harvesting offers a promising solution, traditional harvesters face challenges of irregular and low−frequency environmental sources. This review presents the

Improved performances of the wind inlet of the Savonius rotor [PDF]

open access: yesVojnotehnicki glasnik, 2017
In this study we analyzed the design changes through increasing vertical angles of the top and bottom plates of the wind inlet of a Savonius rotor, in order to obtain better results and better system performances. A designed wind inlet is placed in the front part of the rotor in order to prevent negative torque opposing rotor rotation.

Development of Vertical Wind Turbine Blades Using 4D Printing of Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 12, Page 10966-10975, 20 June 2026.
Vertical axis wind turbine: White blade: Commercial. Black blade: Composite. ABSTRACT This paper presents the procedure to make vertical wind turbine blades using the technique of 4D printing of composites (4DPC). The blades are made using carbon/epoxy composite materials with a fiber volume fraction of about 60%.
