Performance characteristics of the Savonius turbine
The paper presents performance investigation of the Savonius turbine both in terms of starting and power extraction characteristics. Effects of the number of blade and the overlap ratio were investigated experimentally using a wind tunnel at a wind speed of 4.45 m/s.

ABSTRACT Vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) is a suitable renewable power generation tool for use in urban areas, especially at low wind speeds and with low noise level. However, an approach with accurate results, acceptable time consumption, and cost for optimizing this turbine is not reported in the literature.

ABSTRACT The conventional Savonius wind turbine's power coefficient is comparatively low, which limits its efficiency. Because the power coefficient depends significantly on the blade design, this study investigates the potential of improving the turbine performance by modifying the rotor blade designs.

ABSTRACT Wind energy is the most mature renewable energy technology; however, its exploitation in cities is often met with skepticism. Thanks to their ability to operate at low wind speed regardless of direction, vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) offer an attractive opportunity for wind energy harvesting in cities. However, limited evidence exists on
