Performance Improvement of Hybrid Vertical Axis Wind Turbines Equipped With J‐Shaped Blades

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 13, Issue 9, Page 4433-4444, September 2025.
This study presents a novel hybrid vertical axis wind turbine, utilizing J‐shaped blades in Darrieus rotor. The proposed configuration shows the potential of J‐shaped blades in improving the overall performance of hybrid rotors. ABSTRACT Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are emerging as a promising solution for urban wind energy harvesting, owing to ...

Enhanced Aerodynamic Performance of Savonius Wind Turbines Through Blade Design Modifications: A CFD Study

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT The conventional Savonius wind turbine's power coefficient is comparatively low, which limits its efficiency. Because the power coefficient depends significantly on the blade design, this study investigates the potential of improving the turbine performance by modifying the rotor blade designs.

Meteorological Assessment of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Energy Microgeneration Potentials Across Two Swiss Cities Located in Complex Terrain

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 28, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Wind energy is the most mature renewable energy technology; however, its exploitation in cities is often met with skepticism. Thanks to their ability to operate at low wind speed regardless of direction, vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) offer an attractive opportunity for wind energy harvesting in cities. However, limited evidence exists on

An Experimental Study on the Darrieus-Savonius Turbine for the Tidal Current Power Generation

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2008
The Darrieus turbine is popular for tidal current power generation in Japan. It is simple in structure with straight wings rotating around a vertical axis, so that it has no directionality against the motion of tidal flow which changes its direction ...

Optimization of a hydraulic Savonius turbine

open access: yes, 2022
Ever-growing energy demand and unacceptable emissions from fossil fuel combustion are major driving forces for expanding alternative, green energy sources. Hydro-power is one promising ecological alternative to meet these energy requirements. Hydro-kinetic turbines produce energy from streaming fluids such as water. This work con-centrates only on water
