Unraveling unparticles through violation of atomic parity and rare beauty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We put constraints on unparticle physics, specifically on the scale $\Lambda_\U$ and the scale dimension $d_\U$ of unparticle operators, using (i) measurements of atomic parity violation as well as (ii) branching ratio and CP asymmetry measurements in ...

The economic viability of commercial-scale hydroponics: Nigeria as a case study

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
The use of hydroponics to cultivate economic crops is an emerging agricultural practice in Nigeria. There is, however, a paucity of information on the economic viability and valuation of the production systems.

On the ratio of ttbb and ttjj cross sections at the CERN Large Hadron Collider [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Triggered by ongoing experimental analyses, we report on a study of the cross section ratio sigma(pp -> ttbb)/sigma(pp -> ttjj) at the next-to-leading order in QCD, focusing on both present and future collider energies: sqrt{s}= 7, 8, 13 TeV.

Ratio scales of sugar sweetness [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 1970
In a series of 10 experiments, groups of Os judged the sweetness of 16 sugars. The results suggest that, for all sugars except mannose, the intensity of sweetness grows as a power function of concentration, with an exponent of about 1.3. The relative sweetness of sugars was determined using both molarity and per cent by weight.

The regionality of vernacular residences on the TianJing scale in China’s traditional JiangNan region

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, 2023
Based on historical documents and field investigations, this article analyzes the origin and development of the concept and form of the Chinese courtyard “TianJing” in vernacular residences to address common misunderstandings in previous studies. Focused

Using Spectral Radius Ratio for Node Degree to Analyze the Evolution of Scale Free Networks and Small World Networks

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we show the evaluation of the spectral radius for node degree as the basis to analyze the variation in the node degrees during the evolution of scale-free networks and small-world networks.

The Cosmic Mach Number: Comparison from Observations, Numerical Simulations and Nonlinear Predictions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We calculate the cosmic Mach number M - the ratio of the bulk flow of the velocity field on scale R to the velocity dispersion within regions of scale R. M is effectively a measure of the ratio of large-scale to small-scale power and can be a useful tool

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Ion‐Scale Kinetic Alfvén Turbulence: MMS Measurements of the Alfvén Ratio in the Magnetosheath

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
Turbulence in the Earth's magnetosheath at ion kinetic scales is investigated with the magnetospheric multiscale spacecraft. Several possibilities in the wave paradigm have been invoked to explain plasma turbulence at ion kinetic scales such as kinetic ...
