New Hyperspectral Geometry Ratio Index for Monitoring Rice Blast Disease from Leaf Scale to Canopy Scale

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Rice blast is a highly damaging disease that greatly impacts both the quality and yield of rice. Timely identification and monitoring of this disease are essential for effective agricultural management and for ensuring optimal crop performance.

Evolution of the Kippenhahn-Schlueter Prominence Model Magnetic Field Under Cowling Resistivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present the results from 1.5D diffusion simulations of the Kippenhahn-Schlueter prominence model magnetic field evolution under the influence of the ambipolar terms of Cowling resistivity.

The regionality of vernacular residences on the TianJing scale in China’s traditional JiangNan region

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, 2023
Based on historical documents and field investigations, this article analyzes the origin and development of the concept and form of the Chinese courtyard “TianJing” in vernacular residences to address common misunderstandings in previous studies. Focused

Effective Radii and Color Gradients in Radio Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present de Vaucouleurs' effective radii in B and R bands for a sample of Molonglo Reference Catalogue radio galaxies and a control sample of normal galaxies. We use the ratio of the scale lengths in the two bands as an indicator to show that the radio

A Ratio Scale Metric and the Compatibility of Ratio Scales: On the Possibility of Arrow's Impossibility Theorem

open access: yesProceedings of the International Symposium on the Analytic Hierarchy Process, 1994
AbstractWe develop a metric for ratio scales and explore the notion of compatibility of two sets of measurements of a set of objects or properties on a ratio scale. We briefly address Arrow's impossibility theorem. We maintain that it is not as impossible as claimed when, as in reality, a certain degree of inconsistency and incompatibility are allowed.

Detection of the Baryon Acoustic Peak in the Large-Scale Correlation Function of SDSS Luminous Red Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present the large-scale correlation function measured from a spectroscopic sample of 46,748 luminous red galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The survey region covers 0.72 h-3 Gpc3 over 3816 deg2 and 0.16 < z < 0.47, making it the best sample ...

AugFPN: Improving Multi-Scale Feature Learning for Object Detection [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2019
Current state-of-the-art detectors typically exploit feature pyramid to detect objects at different scales. Among them, FPN is one of the representative works that build a feature pyramid by multi-scale features summation.

Influence of the aspect ratio and boundary conditions on universal finite size scaling functions in the athermal metastable 2d Random Field Ising Model [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 93, 022129 (2016), 2015
This work studies universal finite size scaling functions for the number of 1d spanning avalanches in a two-dimensional disordered system with boundary conditions of different nature and different aspect ratios. For this purpose, we consider the 2d Random Field Ising Model at T = 0 driven by the external field H with athermal dynamics implemented with ...

Ratio scales of sugar sweetness [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 1970
In a series of 10 experiments, groups of Os judged the sweetness of 16 sugars. The results suggest that, for all sugars except mannose, the intensity of sweetness grows as a power function of concentration, with an exponent of about 1.3. The relative sweetness of sugars was determined using both molarity and per cent by weight.

trimAl: a tool for automated alignment trimming in large-scale phylogenetic analyses

open access: yesBioinform., 2009
Summary: Multiple sequence alignments are central to many areas of bioinformatics. It has been shown that the removal of poorly aligned regions from an alignment increases the quality of subsequent analyses.
