The Lagrangian-space Effective Field Theory of Large Scale Structures
We introduce a Lagrangian-space Effective Field Theory (LEFT) formalism for the study of cosmological large scale structures. Unlike the previous Eulerian-space construction, it is naturally formulated as an effective field theory of extended objects in ...

The Planck Scale Underpinning for Space Time [PDF]
We provide a rationale for the Planck scale being the minimum scale in the universe, as also its specific numerical values. In the process we answer the question of why the Planck scale is $10^{20}$ times the Compton scale of elementary particles. These considerations show how the Planck scale provides an underpinning for space time.

Derivatives in scale space [PDF]
Various derivatives (1st to 4th order) describe different signal characters in scale space: the first derivative represents signal variation which can be used for coding; the second derivative characterizes the size of signal local structure and can be used for adaptive smoothing; the third and fourth order derivatives relate zero-crossing(or other ...

Scale Spaces on Lie Groups [PDF]
In the standard scale space approach one obtains a scale space representation u:R of an image by means of an evolution equation on the additive group (R d ,¿+¿). However, it is common to apply a wavelet transform (constructed via a representation of a Lie-group G and admissible wavelet ¿) to an image which provides a detailed overview of the group ...

A network for multiscale image segmentation [PDF]
Detecting edges of objects in their images is a basic problem in computational vision. The scale-space technique introduced by Witkin [11] provides means of using local and global reasoning in locating edges.

A Scale-Space Theory for Text [PDF]
Scale-space theory has been established primarily by the computer vision and signal processing communities as a well-founded and promising framework for multi-scale processing of signals (e.g., images). By embedding an original signal into a family of gradually coarsen signals parameterized with a continuous scale parameter, it provides a formal ...

Modified Fermions Tunneling Radiation from Nonstationary, Axially Symmetric Kerr Black Hole
In this paper, by applying the deformed dispersion relation in quantum gravity theory, we study the correction of fermions’ tunneling radiation from nonstationary symmetric black holes.

Linear scale-space theory is the fundamental building block for many approaches to image processing like pyramids or scale-selection. However, linear smoothing does not preserve image structures very well and thus non-linear techniques are mostly applied for image enhancement.

Safe operating space for humanity at a regional scale
The planetary boundaries framework defined safe limits to human impacts on essential Earth-system processes. Subsequent assessments concluded that impacts exceed most delineated boundaries.
